OR 'Nighthaven' - MYO bathtub question

Post by gairym »

Afternoon all,

So a while back I bought an Outdoor Research 'Nighthaven shelter super cheap which is an inner-less outer (does that class it as a tarptent?) which has insect netting and a partial ground sheet type thing that sits inside the outer to give full weather and bug protection.

I then got Stu to make me up some poles for it (usually used with adjustable walking poles) and it was all good :-bd

But now I'm hoping to use it for the kids with me in my little one man thingy next to them and I'm thinking that a ground sheet or bathtub type something isn't a bad idea.

So my question is.....

Is it simply a case of making something the correct size/shape, adding a little lip and that's that?

How does the lip stand upright?

A few little cut offs of tent pole inserted?

Finally, what material do people suggest for a light-ish and robust groundsheet?

Here is what it looks like:

Thanks for any tips/advice.

Cheers, Gairy.

Adding some short supports to the corners is the easiest way to create the tub. Adding a triangular pegging point (so a short line is attached at both top and bottom of the support) helps the thing keep its intended shape. I'd probably use some PU coated nylon as it always seems a little less slippery than sil' coated.

Thanks both, I appreciate the assist.

I'll most likely get some of that material and give it a whirl.....

As it's only 1.5m wide I'll need to join two pieces together, any ideas how ones goes about doing that?

Some kind of chemical weld? Overlapping, stitching and seam sealing? Something else?

Ideally you need to stitch it Gairy. Search on-line for 'flat felled seam' that'll do the job.
