I'm a loser baby, so.....

Post by gairym »

I realise that this line of enquiry is entirely shallow and superficial and pathetic but.....

I'm building up my shiny new frameset (Velo Orange 'Piolet') and the look I'm going for requires a tan coloured saddle (see below for the look I'm attempting to replicate - but with tan tyres too).

Image

I know, I know, literally nobody in the world cares and I should be one of those people. I'm angry at myself for wanting to copy the look of a bike build I like - total loser!!!

But if you can find it in your heart to indulge me then I'm looking to discover if Brooks do a leather saddle that's the same (or near as damn it) to the Cambium C15 (cutout) that is currently doing a sterling job of minimising my legendary bottom issues on multi-day trips.

Any ideas? The Brooks website isn't being as user friendly as I'd like so I thought it worth an ask.

Cheers, Gairy.

You can get a B17 carve in that tan colour, with lovely hammered copper rivets.

I can see why you want to emulate that look... Very nice.

I like a lot of what Velo Orange do. I will admit to wanting one of their porteur front racks.

There! I said it out loud. We can both be judged together...

Hmm... As you say, the website doesn't seem especially definitive...
Drop them an email?

It's not a bad match. 11mm wider and a sniff short with a rounder seating area but it's pretty close - good find.

Good idea, I think I will.

I've got my eye on the Nitto M18 (which I was looking for and then randomly found on the PX site).

It's half the price and one third of the weight of the Porteur but it's not nearly as pretty :???:

Think I might need to rethink a few life choices as I'll soon be thinking that a nice chrome cup attached to the outside of the seatpack will finish the look off nicely

It’s a slippery slope - you’ll start wearing a checked shirt and growing a long beard next. If you start braiding the beard it’ll be too late and you’ll be lost

I've a rack very similar to the above you can have on the cheap, the legs that come down though are designed to screw into a bolt hole on inside of fork if yours has that?

Cool, that looks to be about as close to the C15 as any of the leather offerings.

Fancy emailing a photo or two and naming your price?

This is great, I'd just got permission to buy a new saddle as an early joint birthday and christmas present from the wife but buying used is waaay better - good effort forum!!!

Yeah, may be shallow and what not, but it is a very nice looking bike.

Good on you for admitting you're after a certain look (which includes functionality you're comfy with).

Looking forward to seeing you build with skin walls etc. :-bd

Edit
Sorry, not of any help at all with getting the bits together - just a minor mind fart of mine

Thanks Gian! The look is something that really got my attention in a way that a bike normally doesn't BUT the only reason for the purchase is that it's the exact bike I was looking for......and it just happens to be a beauty!

First and foremost, a bike has got to look nice.

That bike certainly does :-bd

But yeah, a bike has to look nice

So.....my new Brooks 'B17 Imperial narrow' leather saddle is in the post and will be finishing off the look of my shiny new bike any day now.....

Thanks for the saddle input everyone, much appreciated.

Here's a link to a little blog post I did as an initial review of my new love.

She's (she? weird assigning a sex to a bike) a beaut!
