Is there anybody in Sussex (Worthing /Littlehampton or Hampshire (Portsmouth) area that would be able to help me build me new wheels? I really want to do it myself rather than have a shop do it, but I would really like to have someone who knows what they are doing supervise me and stop me mucking it up. Books and YouTube can't make up for actual experience.
Many thanks in advance?

Doesn't Jim work at Hunt?
May the bridges you burn light your way
Re: Wheel Building in Sussex Hampshire
If Jim willing, that would seem the obvious choice. Otherwise I learned using the wheelpro book by Roger Musson. Takes you through it step by step. I bought a tension meter because I really am tone deaf so cant tell tension by pitch when pinged.
Re: Wheel Building in Sussex Hampshire
I don't think Jim does private work anymore.
Re: Wheel Building in Sussex Hampshire
he still teaches mountain biking skills courses. I reckon you might be able to word it carefully into being a mountain bike skill??

Re: Wheel Building in Sussex Hampshire
+1 for the Roger musson book. I'm no master mechanic, but I used his pdf to build my own truing stand and about 20 pairs of wheels so far. Dcr wheels near lewes are very helpful to beginners and are a great source of all related componentry. Yet to find a cheaper supplier of spokes...

As I said on one of Duncans other threads Cyclebasket.com cheapest spoke supplier I have used.
