Single Bolt Bottle Cage Question

Post by Escape Goat »

Hi All

Got a bike that I'd like to use bikepacking along side my Surly. The only problem is it doesn't have 2 or 3 bolts in the fork, money doesn't allow a new fork, so can anyone advise on a bottle cage system for each leg?

Oh, it's a carbon fork too if that helps.

Many thanks

Drill a hole and countersink if needed in two of these.

Thank you! I won't be drilling it any time soon though.

I ended up buying this and works well under frame but no reason why it should tighten onto fork too!

Thats the one I got but also Decathlon apprently do one and a few others (its all in there)

Gorilla clips? You can use either 2 or 3 bolt cages with them.
May the bridges you burn light your way

Only got one drilled and threaded hole in the carbon fork.

Can't really mount it under, and I don't really like bottles with splatters of sheep poop on...

It's not looking so good...

I think the suggestion was to drill the bottle cage mount, so you can use the one threaded hole on your fork, plus the straps for the mount.

I don't get you I'm so sorry. The mount that's already there will take a standard bottle cage bolt...I guess just bolt one through the cage and use one of these for the other?

So you buy a couple of the Decathlon strap-on mounts.
Drill a hole in each of them, and bolt them to the fork using the one threaded hole you have.
Add the straps to hold the mounts in place. There have been reports of some folk finding these Decathlon mounts move around a bit with just the straps (YMMV), but with an additional bolt to the fork, they should be much steadier.
Now you can add the (2-bolt) cage system of your choosing to the Decathlon mounts.

Hope that makes sense (and that I've read Fargoist's advice correctly!).
