Hi,

Anyone suggest a frame for a drop bar MTB with a tapered steerer for 100mm forks? 9mm QR disc 100mm & 135mm.

I've was using my drop bar converted charge cooker 3, but the relatively lower longer front end geometry of MTB isn't ideal, though it does work with spacers and a short stem.

The drops and suspension are for wrist issues on rough stuff. I can't handle a flat or swept bar for any length of time.

I had planned for ages to swap the frame for a vagabond frame, but now know I can't use my almost new 100mm forks as its a straight steerer.

Any suggestions of other frames to fit my forks and wheels? Thread BB would be a bonus too

Not sure on sizing? I'm just shy of 6ft, normally 54cm road bike. I suspect large will be too large.

I see its 1x, assume being CF it would have to stay 1x? I.E. can't just clamp a front derailleur on?

An older Fargo - from before they went boost - think that was 2017/18 or something like that. It has old standard hub spacing and 44mm headtube that can go straight or tapered steerer’s. Large would do you fine
I picked up a 2015 jobbie on eBay end of last year and am loving it.

The newer Fargo can take multiple standards, you change The alternator dropouts to suit, 135,142,148 & dedicated rohloff. You also get chain tensioning/wheelbase adjustment.

I'm just over 6' and it was slightly too short for me, so I reckon you'd be fine.

The seat tube is round so i reckon it would fit a front mech ok. I had a chain keeper on there which clamps the same way.

Where are you based? I'm Surrey/Hampshire.

They go down to 135mm on the rear that’s cool didn’t realise that. That would leave you with some forward compatibility, though with ‘standards’ changing so often that may not be for long. Have my Fargo running a Rohloff with specific Alternator dropouts and a choice of 29er and 27+ wheels. Soon to have an air fork as well as the steel Firestarter - choices, choices.

You can get headset bottom cup assemblies that let you do this. I put one of these (linky below) into an OO Inbred to fit a RS Rev with a tapered steerer. Worked perfectly. Not exactly cheap for what it is, but could be an option if you already have the frame.

Isn’t that just a normal 1.5in bottom cup for a 44mm headtube?
If the Vagabond has a 1 1/8th headtube I don’t think that would work. Also is the Vagabond suspension corrected? I

Hope a Vagabond owner will join the conversation but looking at Genisis website makes me think the Vagabond is not suspension corrected. At least they don’t say so and usually companies like to shout about that stuff. It also says 1 1/8th headset so don’t think your forks would fit. Shame because it looks like a nice bike at a good price.

EC44 cups need a 44mm ID head tube to fit though, ie they don't fit a standard 1 1/8" old-style head tube (sorry..)

Can only find S or XS older Fargo so far. Can get a Ti gryphon made, sadly I don't have £2k for a frame, lovely though it would be. Not sure I'll ever have £2k for a frame
