WRT 2019 observations

Post by JohnClimber »

Because of the direction of the grid refs this year...

Am I right in saying that the water wouldn't be a suitable to filter as it would be in the high Welsh mountains? But as it's more built up taps should be easier to find?
And because of the direction of the grid refs we'd better enjoy riding on quiet lanes than miles and miles of groomed trails.

What are your observations?

I can see that the water is wet and the grass is dry. Therefore trails are good and I'm not even going.

Sorry, whisky has been drunk

Filtering is filtering and as long as your filter is decent and working correctly, the water could have turds floating in it and you'd be fine.

Taylor's right. There's no reason to think this year is a year of lanes. Plenty of great off road sections to be had and many of the GR lead you straight to them.

Not strictly true if your filter is a Trail Shot.
MSR Trail Shot provides bacterial protection only, not viral or chemical, so turd floaty water is probably a bad idea.
That said I'd happily use mine on any clear, flowing water in the UK that isn't down stream from a factory or from a roadside ditch.
The risk of a water bourne virus in the U.K. is pretty tiny. I wouldn't be using a Trail Shot in the tropics though.

Just got to hold out til you get to Lake V - there's 60 gigalitres of fresh water available there and they may not miss the odd litre for Boner relief (as it were )

re filters, in iffy areas I take the T'shot and Steripen. I suppose then I have the choice of virus but no turds or turds but no virus :-bd

Reckon half my back of envelope route is 'off road' fwiw.

True but we are talking Chruch Stoke not Borneo  The TS does deal with cryptosporidium which is likely the biggest concern within the UK.

Absolutely. 9 times out of 10 or more in the British hills you'd probably get away drinking direct from the stream.
It's just that the other 1 is messy ...

This post reminds me. There was this one time that I had ran out of water and it had been a while. Twas in the hills pretty high up somewhere (I think Lakes but not sure exactly) and the next running water I came to was running down over a mass of moss. Poured the water and it had a tinge of green in it. Did I drink it,.... erm... Yes :-bd didnt tase too bad either (dont tell my dad)
