Nah, ones not enough for me. I could of course only have one bike but I like to vary the kind of riding I do based on how I feel at the time and having different bikes available to me enhances my enjoyment.
I currently have
Rigid MTB - general day to riding and bikepacking (not functional at the moment though )
Hardtail MTB - this is actually a bit similar to the first bike so will be swapped for a play bike soon
Gravel bike - used to be a cyclocross bike when I bought it, I use it for cruising manky b roads and the odd old rail track
Road bike - for riding around relatively quickly and being uncomfortable
So 4 really is the sweet spot. Could combine the gravel and road with a second set of wheels, might try that at some point
Glad to see we've had some shouts for folders. I'm down to 3 machines now - Brompton, Orange P7, Canyon f/s. All three used interchangeably (oh, apart from TBH I've not used Brom at a 'trail centre' but there's no reason why not). I don't even consider my Brompton a bike any longer. It's pretty much part of my body now. I've not measured the shortest boney fido journey I've done on her but it's less than 200 yards.

I love my Brompton. I bought it when I was working in the City and it was quicker to use the Brompton and train instead of the tube. Now used mainly for short local journeys. Traffic is often so bad that it's the by far the quickest and most fun way to travel. It's also very sociable as people often want to ask questions about it.
I've seen lots of people touring the National cycle routes on them and I've even seen someone using one in Epping forest.

Agreed, my Brompton is my most often used bike for local trips. 15 miles on it today. I do go through periods where I dont need it and it gets tucked away in a cupboard.
Yeah Snowman, I too was a bowler-hatted rolled-up-brolley carnation-holed be-Bromptonned city gent several decades ago (impossible as it is to believe by many on here, including none more so than me I might add, but there we go). Anyroad, it always took me 16 minutes from Euston to eg Cheapside no matter what was happening with other transport modes. Totally reliable. Did it in me suit and tie (more gasps) too. It was indeed very sociable, I often likened it to a scene from Oliver or Mary Poppins, people would wave their spotted hankies with a cheery 'orwight guv'nor', obie clever mike mate'. Possibly somewhat less cheery now methinks. Conversely, managed a 50-mile 'gigpacking' overnighter to see The Rezillos a couple of years ago with all my kit rammed into an S-bag. Brommie - my flexible friend.

I've got mates that adhere to a one bike rule but invariably it's a mid travel full suss that struggles on the xc stuff and isn't quite up to the rougher downhill trails. Seems like a bug compromise to me.

Big travel FS
Short travel FS
Hardtail 29er (currently ridgid for bp duties but is also the winter bike with a suss fork)
Rigid ss plus bike
CX/Gravel bike
If i could I'd sell the rigid 27.5 plus and buy a proper fattie. And maybe lose the short travel fs. And buy a Cuthroat.
Having multiple wheelsets for one bike is cheating, yeah?
Cube Agree - carbon road bike - I could get rid of this and fit skinny tyres to the Amazon on the few occasions required, but it's 9 years old so not worth selling.
Amazon - Ti tourer/gravel/adventure bike. A keeper, especially as I have 3 wheelsets with a choice of road tyres, Nano 40s and WTB Byways in 650x47.
Pact - Ti bike packer. Choice of 29er and B+ wheels and rigid or suspension forks. Custom made for me. A keeper. So flexible and perfect for my favourite aspect of cycling.
Ragley Marley - aluminium hardtail with 140mm forks. Mostly used on local rides. It was a cheap build so has little resale value but it could go in favour of...
Orbea Occam - 27.5" 150mm FS. Mostly gets dragged out for trail centres and the occasional "bug mountain" day.
9zero7 Fatbike. A necessity for a large part of the year. I couldn't do without a fatbike.
So - 6 could become 4 easily enough. Then it gets more difficult. Maybe if I had to cut it back I could manage with the Amazon and a B+ full sus like a Cannondale Bad Habit.

I'm at 5, but could easily be 3, may get rid of the PX. I don't think I'd be anywhere near as happy with just one bike for the variety of riding around the SW lakes.
Rose ProDX with two 700c wheel sets - 28mm slicks for the occasional road riding / 37mm GOnes (or a racing ralph up front) for gravel/bikepacking.
Ramin 3+ - Rigid B+ for winter packing and not too techy mtb trail/trail center or rigid 29x2.25 for dryer packing
Marin Mount Vision F/S - Recently acquired second hand cheap for playing about in the Lakeland fells and trail centers
26" SS hardtail - 10 years old and kept at work for lunchtime spins involving a golf course, bridleway, paved railway and tiny bit of road
Planet X Pro Carbon - not used in over a year as the Rose doesn't feel much slower and it's more comfy/able to deal with potholes and broken roads
Would be tempted to replace the rose with something with a bit more clearance, stuck at 37 max on the back and can't drop to 650b due to the chainstay unfortunately.
Have always had the philosophy of preferring to own multiple lower end bikes than one or two high(er) end bikes

In order of how long I have owned them
Specialized Hardrock 26" - bought in 2004, much loved but now just gathering dust in shed,
On One Inbred 26" with rigid fork -formerly most used but fallen out of favour since buying 29er version
On One Pompino -originally had drop bar, changed to flat bar last year but still not got around to fitting new v-brakes.
Canondale CAADX - bought cheap 2nd hand 2 years ago, hardly used
Genesis High Latitude - Used for "proper" mountain biking & trail centres,
Brompton - bought 2nd hand as commuter, aim to use more this year.
On One Inbred 29" with rigid fork - bought for £200 2nd hand last summer as a singlespeed that I intended to replace both my old Hardrock and Pompino as my general usage Singlespeed bike for pootles along the river, rides with the kids, shops, etc but have fallen in love with it, I have recently spent about £400 adding an entirely new 1x11 drivetrain, new rear wheel, pedals, stem and handlebars and now use it for virtually everything I do, including the occasional Bikepacking trip.
Want to keep Brompton and reduce other 6 down to 4 so they all fit in my Asgard bike shed. I really need to stop being so flipping sentimental about bikes and give the Hardrock to a local bike charity and either sell the Inbred 26" or leave it at my Mum's in Southport for when we are staying up there. The CAADX is also on borrowed time and I am contemplating replacing it with a Vagabond at some point, I also have a hankering for a Surly Krampus one day.
