New Salsa ... you saw it here first

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

maybe.

Salsa have just announced a new model, the 'Warroad'. Granted. it's a proper poor name that conjures up lots of Mad Max images but name aside, I can see it finding much favour amongst those who would aspire to something like the TCR or similar. Where the Warbird (good name) is aimed at those who may encounter a little tarmac amongst the gravel, this is aimed at those who may encounter a little light off-road amongst the tarmac.

It's not cheap (you didn't think it would be did you) with the top of the range Force 1 650b or Ultegra 700c coming in at $4399 and the Tiagra 650b $2399

The name doesn’t bother me overly, it’s a bike type that floats my boat for sure. 2 problems for me(cost aside) is that it may not be available as a frame set, and probably(possibly) won’t be available at all!!
The importer seems to be quite hit and miss in my experience, when the Cutthroat came out my LBS couldn’t get anything, or knew when/if he would be able to at all.

Gari, there is a frameset listed at just under $2k. The importers have changed and Lyon are now bringing Salsa in, so supply should get much better. Try speaking to Shona at Keep Pedalling, they're bringing their Salsa stuff in direct and have had no issues supplying Cutthroats - they seem to be building at least one a week at present.

Warroad follows on from Fargo & Spearfish. It's a town in Minnesota (they are from other states of course), and helpfully plays along with a rodie version of the warbird.

Ultegra & Force is £4800
105 is £3750
Frameset £2100

Rather confusingly, the few comments I have seen seem to imply/surmise it’s a road version of the Warbird, but the spec shows it as taking 2.1 tyres in 27.5.

Makes sense though, my Fargo looks ridiculous with 35s.

Perhaps the name is something to do with Stu's recent trend to speaking in Geordie, as in "Ya not riding down here this is Warroad"

Didn't that Catherine Tate lass use the word in one of her sketches.

"Warroad?
"Am I warroad?
"Eh, warroad..."

We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

First thoughts were an 80s hair rock band ala Spinal Tap

HELLO ENGLAND!!
WE . ARE. WARROAD!!!

*massive guitar intro*
*flying inflatable pig*
*overly tight leatherette pants*

Looks like a nice bike though.

Party on Wayne.
