29" tyre diameter

Can any of you who ride 29er's give me some measure meats of the diameter to the outer edge/knobs of your 29er tyres. Really interested in a general xc tyre about 2.4-2.6.

I just want to check the clearing in my frame and forks as it currently runs a 26+ wheel size.

Vittoria Mezcal 2.6 on 35mm rim is 740mm diameter at the outer knobs.

This thread has big potential for misunderstanding.

Clearly a 29 x 2.4 will run some where around 760 mm diameter.
Bob on mescaline 2.6 measured 740 mm diameter shoulder knobs. The full diameter - like to ride on 2.6" mescaline too - of mine is a roughly measured 770 mm. The Mezcal is a large volume 2.6. Bigger than Nobby Nic 2.6. Similar width but more height.

I'm afraid you're better off trying different tyres. Ask friends for a wheel swap session with a few beers.

I once rode 26+.
Kona Stab Supreme/Deluxe, sun double wide rims, Nokian Gazzaloddi 3" tyres, Marzocchi Monster T and Shiver forks. Gosh I broke many bones back then... no jump could be far and no drop high enough.

Besides, having talked about mescaline. The Prodigy has a good song named after the Vittoria tyre... or wait... was it... hmmm..?

Well, I've just measured a pork chop and it's 320mm end to end. A rasher of bacon is 78cm uncooked but only 55cm after 5 minutes under the grill. I've just roasted a chicken and while a bit hot for measuring, it appears to be much bigger than either a pork chop or rasher of bacon. Hope that helps

Just measured again: 740mm diameter to outer edge knobs; 765mm diameter overall.

The above figures assume two things:

1) That I know how to use a tape measure.
2) That I am able to read.
3) That I'm numerate.

Amongst my assumptions ...

Just re-read this. Bacon rasher 78cm???. I'm no expert on processed animal products as you know, but that sounds pretty enormous. a/ what on earth are you feeding those pigs, and b/ how do you fit said rasher into the pan?

I probably meant 78mm Reg but all this imperial / metric strap talk has addled my brain ... which functions quite poorly without the added complexity of converting one to the other

However, mid-Wales is known for its rather large pigs. Many believe that the mid-Wales giant pig is in fact the truth behind the Welsh Dragon folklore - 'tis true - see below.

Cheers guys, it has given me some rough ideas of sizes. I have not got access to any 29” wheels and I needed to deceive before buying 29” or 650b rims which I was able to measure with the exact tyre I would use. Actually there is not that much difference between those measurements and my 4.8 JJ’s on a 26+ 82mm rim. With those I still have extra clearance in frame and forks, so most 650b and 29” tyres should fit I guess.

Definately, 4.8/4.7" etc. have more like 780 mm diameter and for example, for the fatbike frame I'm having custom built Waltly indicated 780 mm for up to 5" tyres. Space is there up to 820 mm diameter...

Even my 170 mm Muru Witjira Classic theoretically has room for about 810 mm. With the needed width (for >4.7"), I'm sure you can run just about any 27.5+ or 29+. As big as they come today, a full fat fatbike will take them all.

I'll bet an undrilled Robsson 82 mm rim if yours doesn't. Including shipment from cheese country.
