Tube size for 29 by 2.2 tyre

Post by nobby »

Newby question: what tube size do I need for a 29 by 2.2" tyre, please?

I normally use Schwalbe tubes. Is that ok in this size or are there better options?
Is a tube just a tube until it splits after dark on a cold wet evening? (rhetorical question - not imperative to reply) :D

Cheers

The first bit is a serious question folks ;)
I'm not sure that my lbs will give me the right/best thing if I just ask for a 29 by 2.2. I'd like to go in there and ask for exactly what I want so it sounds as though I know what I am talking about.
Any relevant advice appreciated

I've just ordered some tubes from on-one as I assume their tubes are made by maxxis like their tyres. I've been getting a puncture on every ride until I changed to maxxis.

Anyhow, I digress, they list two sizes of 29er tube widths and they're £2.50ish.

Ah, I thought that 29" was a non standard size - some kind of corrupted 700C.
Thanks for the info.

Good grief, where have you been? ;)

I just use 26" tubes though and stretch they around. Works for me, and is a bit lighter too 8-)

I've been riding recumbents and small wheel folders. All this is very new to me. It has all happened while I wasn't looking :D
When I rode the Wayfarer Path it was on 27" by I and a quarter tyres with a 5 gear derailleur and a saddlebag. You didn't ride through stuff. You put the bike over your shoulder and walked. I did a lot of that ;)

Thanks for the help; it's a steep learning curve :)

Oh, I just noticed the Schwalbe bit properly. The Schwalbe SV19 29er tubes are fine but avoid their super light tubes. They are paper thin! My puncture problems have been with Maxxis EXC Beavers.
