WRT / LHC

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

After sterling service holding together the WRT Lonely Hearts Club, Reg is having to take a forced break from the task this year, which leaves an opening. Would anyone fancy the idea of throwing themselves into the LHC hot seat? If so, let me know and we'll have a chat - the wages are poor but the glory infinite.

That's really not gonna attract anybody to want to join never mind lead it , I've got the boy with me this year so it's only gonna be about 50 miles over the whole weekend ,15 sat 25 sun and 10 Monday ,if anybody wants a really laid back weekend they can join but when I say laid back I really mean it, it's probably gonna be a 10 hrs on the sat with food and chat stops , youngfella likes to see things and not just ride past them

Thanks Stuart. Yes I'm sorry not to be able to do the job this year . I enjoy it - it's a bit like the Miss World cliche: "I like travelling and meeting new people". So if you are Miss World, or indeed a bikepacker who likes travelling and meeting new people, don't be shy, please help. I think you'll gain as much as you put in, although you might have to provide your own pandas.

Due to circumstances beyond my control (Mrs Perrin) the best I can salvage from the wreckage is a Saturday 8pm train from here arriving Mach or Borth at midnight to bivi on the spot then pick up the weekend from there. At least I get a chance at the Monday cake then.

(Love the quote on the photo )

Having had to look after Reg for the last couple of years I'm happy to help if I can - pace will be slow (if not glacial) pubs will take precedent over GRs and there'll be at least a couple of mechanicals!
If the route works we can maybe meet up with Reg on Saturday night/sunday morning ?

That'd be nice Steve - was going to drop you a line, would really like to hook up if poss. All care in the community gratefully received as usual. FWIW, am thinking about perching at Ynyslas Sat night, brekky at Borth watching the waves, up to Anglers Rest area, fiddle about round there - lying flat in the grass with a straw in my mouth staring at the sky etc - then down Mach 3 to one of our 'usual' pubs. Sun back via last year's aborted route cos fancy the last section of that to Stu's which we missed. Pretty glacial. Stu to Ynyslas on Sat would be easy/fun via Fadian.. who knows, there might even be some GR's by coincidence!

I’m sure we’ll be able to sort something out - I’m working away for 2 weeks up to may 30th so I’ll need to start looking st a route as soon as the GRs are released - or I suppose I could ignore them as on previous WRTs!

After speaking with Stuart.

I've pencilled in a long(ish) LHC route for those who fancy that sort of distance.

105 miles
11,900 ft or ups and downs
Day 1 - 30 miles
Day 2 - 50 miles
Day 3 - 25 miles

Pubs, cafe and Spar stops with a chippy tea on Saturday evening

I'll start a LHC thread once the grid refs come out.

Steve will you lead a shorter LHC?

Sounds like a plan - i’ll Sort out a meet up with Reg on my route

Have you pre-guessed a route/area?

So those looking in can choose their distance what sort of miles will you be planning per day Steve?

And yes a little gnome told me which compass direction to head, but no grid refs

I'm pretty constrained to my plan outlined above due to the timings and location of railway stations, so don't let my tail wag the LHC2 dog Steve. But if it fits with any of your stuff it'd be brill to meet up. I'll PM you to save boring anyone else with details..

Reg, you might want to get off the train before Mach' ... however, that's allowing for people heading in the general direction of the GR. I can say no more but there you go

Well volunteered that man  Perfectly reasonable criteria, as valid as any others!

Ummmmmm.... I was hoping to join as opposed to lead, assuming the above was meant for me.

* Grid ref depending :wink:

mmm, pulls up chair, opens choc hobnobs...

Might I also add - for whom is the LHC?
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Last year was for Billy no mates like me (not strictly true as I'd been out with Scott and Mike but no way was I gonna ask them to go at my plodding pace for a whole weekend) ,after which I made new riding buddies :-bd ,so hopefully this year's will manage to convince at least one poor soul to meet up through out the year with some of the people they meet on the LHC , disclaimer :- I'm a little bit strange which is probably why I fitted in quite well with last year's LHC
Edit- can't speak for JC as I've never ridden with him but I can guarantee that Mr Morgan will go at your pace and make sure have sufficient alcohol and food on all days

I think we're working on the assumption that there'll be two LHC this year.

I’ll play around with some route options this week - not sure of distance but it’ll be shorter than Johns
