Bar extensions or GPS and light mounts with handlebar harnes

Post by Mitomaniac »

Sorry for the next question.

I'm starting to kit out my bike for a few excursions, until I sell my road bike which I can no longer ride and replace with a hard tail I'm making my full suspension bike do the job.

I've got a alpkit kanga harness and bag on the front however my wahoo mount no longer clears and my light doesn't clear over the top.

I'm running a short stem and 35mm diameter bars just looking for solutions to this. I've found a topcap mount for the wahoo but with delivery it's going to cost near on £40 which seems steep for something I'm hoping to use temporarily until o get a more suited bike for my purposes.

Kanga often causes an issue with mounting of electrical items. SJS Cycles have a wide range of mounts or a POD front harness from PlanetX will cost you £20 and remove the issue as it mounts much lower.

That's perfect I'll have to look into one of those as I can still use same bag with it

Thank you again for being the encyclopedia of bike packing gear

I have the same issue with my MYOG harness. My even lower budget solution is to wedge a pump under the straps which hold the drybag into the harness, which then works like a bar extension and takes the light. I've used it a few times and it works surprisingly well. Can't immediately find a pic I'm afraid.

Same as Jambo ,works surprisingly well if you have the kanga mounted on the first set of loops (depends on your bike size this may not be possible if it's a small frame)

This might help?

Beware the tendency to use it as a handle when manhandling the bike.
Zazen - nothing happens next this is it.

If a top cap mount for a Garmin is available cheaply that would suit, it's really easy to cut a tiny bit out of the mount to allow a wahoo to fit.

It's a large frame but I've a short stack height so it's quite proud of the bars it's not your usual bike for bike packing really

You may struggle to get a good dispersement of light ,just measured mine and it's 75mm from bars to bottom of light ,if I mount the kanga on the 2nd set of loops the dry bag covers quite a bit of the beam

4 reflector mounts and an offcut of handlebar...

Likely you'd get it all free from your LBS (or in exchange for some biscuits)
