Christmas list - a suggestion

Post by AlasdairMc »

I got The Year by our very own Dave Barter last Christmas and am finally getting around to reading it. 60 pages in and it’s excellent. Fascinating, interesting, but sadly none of the swearing we’ve come to expect from the man himself. Highly recommended.

Anyone else got something they’d recommend to go on our Christmas list?

Yes, 'The Year' is a cracking read, highly recommended.

Anything else? Yes ... a nice Bear Bones calendar. Just £9.99 delivered and full of lovely pictures.

Shameless
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Thanks Alistair. I'm working on an audio book version of it and am happy to create an 18+ version if there's demand

Tis indeed an excellent read.

18+ sounds good! And hopefully the subsequent 60+ version will feature extra-special under-the-counter additional profanities :-bd. I'd be happy to dig out my 'Roger' to aid my understanding and reading pleasure alongside it .

I really like "Faster" by Michael Hutchinson, very knowledgeable but also very funny.

"its all about the bike " by Robert Penn was good too (he also did on called "Woods: a celebration" about unsurprisingly our woodlands and a funny book called "The Wrong Kind of Snow" about UK weather.)

I've just bought myself an early xmas present from R*pha (only likely purchase i'll ever make from them), "Longer Rides" written and illustrated by Jo Burt. £12 plus extortionate postage, but I like his drawings and it sounds good to me. No training plans and nutrition guff, and he talks to well known names in long distance cycling.

Agree as above. Penn's book It's All About the Bike is very, very good. Did he used to have a column in Cycling Weekly maybe 20 years ago?

It's a not a bikepacky book, but A Dog in a Hat is a simply wonderful read about becoming a Belgian cycling pro.

Ditto done the same myself this lunchtime.

For £5 p&p I'd expect a quicker delivery then the 4-6 days they have quoted!

I think Reg digging out his Roger should be 18+ :o I presume (hope) he's referring to his Profanisaurus.
