Re: Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive Pics
Made my day that did Chew - thanks! Not much new under the sun really is there . My faves: the couple in the muddy field; bloke readying his trike(!) for the ferry trip; couple of fabulous HaB ones; ancient one of Winnats; bloke trying to douse his raging primus with a pan of water; proper train that could transport 500 bikes in the guards van (back when we used to have a sensible transport "system").
Note the total lack of beards - even the chaps.
I reckon Stu you could take a leaf out of their book with the WRT/WE raffles: 1st Prize: bottle of whisky; 2nd bottle of wine; 3rd 100 fags; 4th pair of nylons(!!!), 5th box of chocs. Forget all those bike-related goodies - give us the fags and booze. Oh, and nylons obviously!
Just nipping out to swap my helmet for a flat cap..... luckily still got my yellow rain cape!

Re: Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive Pics
Have you any idea how much 100 fags would cost - they can have a new frame and like it
Aye, some cracking pictures and all of them just make you want to go exploring for no other reason than it being good for the soul ... no strava nonsense or worrying about heart rate and power levels, just 2 blocks of chocolate and some brewing tackle

They were probably cheapo Woodbines .
"no strava nonsense or worrying about heart rate and power levels" - absolutely, this and the ditching of guards vans are when the whole thing went horribly wrong . Ah well, "nostalgia - it ain't what it used to be" .

Re: Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive Pics
I did like that tandem trike, one of those could come in very handy in a few years.
Re: Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive Pics
There are a lot more of these held by the local CTC club on 35mm slides.
If anyone has the ability to convert them to digital that would be great

Re: Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive Pics
I've just started following it and absolutely love the pictures. It sums up everything i like about riding, which i've managed to dilute in recent years by caring too much about the wrong things (strava, shiny stuff, etc...). Those pictures remind me of some of my favourite rides when I only had one bike, and appropriately enough for this forum, some of the best rides involved bog-trotting along non-existent bridleways in mid Wales! So it's helped me with a re-awakening of my priorities.
Re: Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive Pics
I used to ride with the Yorkshire section in the late 80's and early 90's. some good memories and rides remembered.
cheers for that Matt.

Great shots there. A few of them brought back memories of rock scrambles and knee deep snow thrutching.

I have access to a very "high end" scanner that has a slide adapter.
I am allowed to use it for my own stuff.
As long as there aren't millions of images that need processing, I would be happy to convert them Chew...
PM me if you want to discuss in more detail.
The images up so far are certainly evocative of the kind of riding that I want to do, but seem to have somehow lost sight of...

Some good pics there
Re: Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive Pics
I have spent many an hour being regaled with stories from my Mum about how her and 'your Auntie Joan' rode around Wales, then Norway and later how her and my Dad honeymooned riding around the Austrian Alps.
I have tried to get her back on an e bike but she doesn't fancy her chances in the SE London traffic.
Bikes have always been great, as has bimbling around the countryside, a winning combination.

Re: Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive Pics
I posted this some time ago but it somehow seems appropriate again.
From the RSF magazine.
Ben Broom Obituary
Mention was made of Ben crossing the Lairig Ghru in snow. But no mention that he was wearing bedroom slippers! Ben said he didn’t want to get his leather cycling shoes wet and thought his slippers would dry quicker.

Bloody fantastic!
Re: Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive Pics
The chap running the instagram would be grateful for any support for the scanning/transfer costs to keep them coming, apparently there's a huge volume of them - a beer or 2's worth via paypal to antibonkdivision AT thegoldenspoke.cc would go down wellChew wrote:There are a lot more of these held by the local CTC club on 35mm slides.

Was some chat via Instagram on this point so thought it worth a mention on here. Most interesting collection of images I've seen in ages.

Hello all,
I’m the person guilty of bombarding your devices with all these images.
I just wanted to say thanks very much for the positive comments on here. It’s really great to see that folk are enjoying the history and photos. There’s quite a few more to come.
Mariner,
Do you happen to know which Journal that is taken from? I’d like to share the slippers quote on the feed.
Thanks.

brill chew, some fantastic pics and now I can see where the term push bikes came from, some bottle on riding down the snowy hill on the drops,
it's not that I can and others can't, it's that I will and others won't.
