Light mounts for Jones Loop Bars

Post by whitestone »

I've a set of the Jones Loop Riser Bars on my fat bike and I'm wanting to mount a light (Hope Vision 2) to the front loop which is 22.2mm diameter but the QR mount only goes down to 25.4mm with the thicker rubber inserts. With the bars angled how I like the front loop is clear of any bag mounted using a Wildcat Lion harness so I don't need any fancy extension bar.

Has anyone mounted a Hope light to the Jones bars? If so how did you bodge it? Shim or a different mount? The Vision 2 fixes to the QR mount via an M5 bolt so any mount that has a similar arrangement should suffice.

Annoyingly Exposure's light mounts (for the beefier lights) also only go down to 25.4mm according to their website.

Length of inner tube and a couple of zip ties here. Simple and secure.

Ha ha! Bodge it is then :-bd

Dug out the Hope spares box and found some of the thicker inserts for the QR clamp and with those it gently holds the front loop so a section of inner tube should be enough to make up the difference and make it a firm fit.

I was hoping Dave Barter was going to knock some 25.4/22.2mm shims out on his 3D printer :-bd

Meanwhile have a look for 2-part handlebar shims BMX bars (22.2mm) to MTB stem (25.4mm).
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

If Hope lights can be attached via an "action cam" type mount then the fine fellows at Raceware will make you one - they did one for me so my Lupine could sit up on the loop of my Jones bars.

These will adapt from 31.8 down to 22.2 for lights, I've used them with Exposure light mounts on my loop bars. Obviously not a quick solution as they have to come from china.

Gorilla tape. This time of year all my bikes have a big wad of it round the bars.
