playing around with bikecalc I wondered ….could XTR 12 speed match the gear ratio on my sequoia?
sequoia has a 32/48 chainset, and an 11-36 cassette
so, a max ratio (48-11) of 4.36
and a min ratio (32-36) of 0.89
XTR 12 speed cassette has a range of 10-51 (and an eye watering price )
a 44 tooth chainring gives....
(44-10) 4.40
and
(44-51) 0.86
i am actually genuinely surprised.
now just need the ba5tard child of 12speed XTR and DuraAce
it seems XTR 10-51 can match 2x chainset range ...surprised

Have you looked at e-thirteen 9-46 TRS?
Zazen - nothing happens next this is it.

Only thing to note is that there are some pretty big jumps in there. Not an issue for most, but if you're cadence sensitive then it could be an issue.

It's only taken them 2 years to catch up with SRAM!
That's a really high gear range you are using; 44 chainring - I assume you are riding on-road? I was using a 36/10-42 (11 speed) for TNR with no complaints, even on the long road descents, and used the bottom gear a lot. Replaced my 32 with a 30 on the MTB (12 speed), and would have a 28 on if I went back to proper Alpine mountains and/or high altitude.

somewhat under biked when off-road on the sequoia.
was merely a ponder to ascertain whether 1x could match the available range of my 2x configuration.

just use a double chainring without the front mech and shifter, when your riding in the alps like the tnr the climbs last 4-6 hours so just flick the chain with the foot into the granny ring
