psi/ boost wheels

Post by redefined_cycles »

Just finally build up my Sonder hardtail (will mainky be rigid with the Travis Prongs after I've had some fun with the suspension...

Question is regards psi please. I'm new to fat tires with superwide rims... the rims are 35mm dt swiss and the tires are 3.0 (Bambolonis) front and 2.4 rear.

What psi would youvuys run comfortablt without worrying aboyt burping. Currently have gone with 16psi front and 24psi rear. Any thoughts or comments are much appreciated

Pretty much down to preference. Start low, then go up a bit to the point where you're not continually rimming out. It's a very, very fine line.

29x3In on a rigid Krampus run at 12psi front 14psi rear. That's a loaded bike on mixed off road. Don't burp or skull my rims very often.

12/13psi on the front, 16psi on the rear is about right for me.

As Greg says, start with something reasonable, which is probably midway between a fat bike tyre pressure and a normal MTB tubeless and work from there. You'll need a few rides on the same loop to figure out what's right for you. It's finding the balance point between the tyre squirming and being bounced around.

10-15 front 15-20 rear. Lower adds floatation but you tend to get alarming rock strikes. Add 5psi each end for gravel / hardpack and another 5 for tarmac

i use a bombolini on a Dually rim. On the front it’s between 15-20 ish
I say ish as i don’t have a accurate gauge to measure and do it mostly about how it feels to ride
Probably could go slightly lower

10-12 for me, using a Knard or Chronicle on a Dually. About 15 when using the Knard on a Crest.

Thanks all... I think I will have to invest in one of them 5 quid psi gauges. I also guess I should swap out the 2.4 inch rear for the 3.0 Bamboloni...

On the subject of pressure gauges, does anyone have any experience of this chap:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B074TXK84M
(or can recommend something of a similar type)

The display on my digital Topeak is missing bits of numbers so it's almost impossible to read. A good old analogue version appeals :-bd

Accutire shows up as being 11 dollars from some places but not syre how accurate it qould be. The same gauge is listed as 73 quid aswell in Amazon so unsure of why the massive variability!!

Ian. I'm also thinking along thw analogue route as digital (from what I've read) seems to be hit/miss... Thr gauge that most people mention on ST etc is thw AccuGage. Listed on one ebay store with max psi of 30 (meaning it will probably be more accurate on the tiny psi readings we are trying to read) for 21 quid

Got this or very similar from Amazon. Works fine, I use for fat bike up to 10psi.
