Re: Sorry to ask - what pedals?
Used Saints for years then changed to DMR V12s.
The difference is remarkable. My feet used to slip on the Saints when it was wet but the V12s just grip no matter what.
Keep clear if you are pushing they will rip your legs to pieces.

Zazen - nothing happens next this is it.

Re: Sorry to ask - what pedals?
I've got some 'Park Hill' pedals from On-One. They're possibly the best pedal I've used and I've used rather a lot ... sadly, they don't appear to make them any more but perhaps pre-loved?
May the bridges you burn light your way

Re: Sorry to ask - what pedals?
Other than in snow/on my fatbike I've always used Candys. However I'm riding "MTB" with flats these days and I'm thinking of converting for off-road bikepacking too. I'm using Electrons on the MTBs and can't fault them so likely just use them.

Re: Sorry to ask - what pedals?
When I use flats on the Solaris then it's Hope F20s. On the fat bike I've some DMRs - V6? - the plastic bodied ones, got those for riding in very cold conditions.

Deore XT trekking, half and half, one side SPD one side flat, so I can wear sandals if it is really hot and not worry about cleats.

DMR V6 on the gravel/adventure bike. Despite "only" having plastic pins, I've never found myself needing more grip when riding in my usual 5-10s.
Nukeproof electrons on the MTB. The extra grip definitely kicks in on the kind of terrain that would stop the gravel bike being fun.

Re: Sorry to ask - what pedals?
Not bikepacking as such but trailquesting and all sorts of other mtb shenanigans with and without the tent.
Spd shimanos.
V12s and V8s
Currently am looking at getting the Nukeproof plasticky ones for the new Sonder. Only cos they come with good reviews and are cheaper or same as V8s... Then once I have become at one with yhe bike it'll probably be back to the m520 shimano SPD

Re: Sorry to ask - what pedals?
It's already been mentioned but use plastic pedals for winter biking - and definitely not SPDs.
Re: Sorry to ask - what pedals?
Thirty quid Nukeproof Electrons/Neutrons for me too, just pop the end cap off every now and again and pump some grease in and they last for ages. Used to have Mag V12s with Ti axles, cost a fortune and were heavier and less grippy than the Nukeproofs.

Re: Sorry to ask - what pedals?
Just bought the dmr v12s used of eBay £20 delivered. If good will get a second pair for other bike. Normally use clips but sometimes don't put feet in. No good of road catching the ground all the time. Might as well use flats. Interested to see how well they grip.

Thanks all, I took on all your advise and ignored it all as I've just ordered a pair of small Crank Brothers Stamp 2's

Thought it was cringeworthy telling someone what they ‘definitely’ should or shouldn’t use.ScotRoutes wrote:Do you have a point to make?voodoo_simon wrote:ScotRoutes wrote:It's already been mentioned but use plastic pedals for winter biking - and definitely not SPDs.
I’ve used SPDs for winter biking and prefer it as a setup, so not sure why I definitely shouldn’t use them?

Re: Sorry to ask - what pedals?
I think it's a valid point - in proper winter conditions, the minute your feet touch the ground you acquire two icy snowballs on the bottom of your shoes, which can be quite tenacious! This is just on my cross/gravel/tourer/road bike, no SPDs at all for my mountain bikes for other reasons.I think saying you use SPDs in winter may have been more constructive than the eye roll though!

Re: Sorry to ask - what pedals?
A lot of US riders use SPDs but then they are riding in consistently sub-zero temps where the snow doesn't melt and re-freeze but just falls off everything. My last ride in the snow we were constantly above and below the freezing level and were having to knock ice off the bottom of our boots on a continual basis.

Re: Sorry to ask - what pedals?
DMR Vaults - I find V12s (and a lot of other pedals) just a little bit too narrow.
I only have one mountain bike though, which does everything from bikepacking to uplift days.
