29er 3" tyres on 30/35 internal rims ?

currently using surly Rabbit holes.

Just wondering if 30/35 mm internal width rims is too narrow ?

Personal opinion .... I consider 35mm to be minimum for 3" tyres. I just don't see the point of using anything narrower.

Iv just had some blunts built up and I'm running a 3" on the front and it's great. I think u can go too wide and uv gotta be careful of the side walls on some tires

Surly recommend 35's as a minimum but stick with your 50's for max benefit of a 3" tyre.

3" on a 50mm seems about right. 2.8" sits quite nicely (but quite a bit rounder) on a 35mm. If the rims are any narrower I'd be looking around the 2.4" mark.

Well I’ve been running a 3in Knard on a Crest for two or three years with no problems. I’m sure it would be better on a wider rim (I have a Chronicle/Dually combo on another bike) but it’s surprisingly good.

Not used Chronicles, but from what I've seen the tread knobs are a bit more Knobbily and grip pretty well whilst they also roll nicely

I'd say 35 internal would be spot on for a 3'' tyre.

I like the transition that the shape gives when cornering, a 50 internal with 3'' tyres is a terrific way to get into a boom or bust situation ever time I tip the bike in... that said I am not talking about riding a laden bike here, for that the great rim width would allow greater volume and that would allow for lower pressures and all that that offers.

Hence the need for many bikes, all with 3 wheelsets each and a plethora of tyres.

Damn this biking marlkey, makes it frightfully difficult to have any money left over for frivolous things such as food and clothing.
