Not really understanding.
The fact it's a 'chair' I get but the fact you're still sitting on the floor kind of negates the chair bit?

Re: Not really understanding.
Then again Thermarest have been doing their "chair" for donkey's years now. Cath even bought me one

Re: Not really understanding.
Can't imagine it would be particularly stable either. Seems a bit pointless really.
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

I assume it's just the back rest that people are wanting though I can't imagine it feeling very 'loungey'

Re: Not really understanding.
I get the Thermarest one as you're actually sat on a cushioned 'surface' rather than simply material. I reckon I can save myself 150g and £25 by leaning against a tree / wall, etc.

Re: Not really understanding.
You'll save even more weight as you won't need to take walking poles to put in the back of it. I still cant quite see how it works either? The Thermarest one works as your weight sat on the base resists the overturning in the back with the side straps in tension. But I think this one looks like it will just fall over?

Re: Not really understanding.
I think it simply relies on your weight holding the bottom down and then leaning back to put the material under tension - the poles are really just to hold the back up rather than produce (much) actual support. Does this help?

Re: Not really understanding.
It looks even less comfy in that picture. So it relies on the friction between your muddy shorts and the material to work.
Why would anyone need to take a chair when bikepacking anyway, as the bike has a saddle, if you need to sit down just ride round in circles

Looks like it could be a better core exercise than comfortable seat judging by that illustration!

Will it do anything that a bin bag and a tree won't?

My thermarest chair kit used to be my luxury item. I could sit up in my bivi bag in the morning, and sit around at a bivi bantering away.
I haven't tried it with my xtherm though, slightly different shape so should still work

Re: Not really understanding.
The thermarest 'chair' is very good (unlike this ridiculous thing); have used it to sit around in camp when sea kayaking, but it is just a bit too bulky to justify in the bike bags.
Re: Not really understanding.
Isn't that what trees are for?
Re: Not really understanding.
You lot just don't get it. There's a huge opportunity for manufacturers to make money selling stuff to people who didn't realise they needed such a thing. It doesn't matter how well it doesn't work, if you are of a certain persuasion you will be convinced by the ad and the picture that it will be money well spent to look like a seasoned outdoor type.
In reality it srves no useful purpose, but that doesn't mean much - just look at Jedward

I prefer regions without trees. Get better views. That said, I often find rocks to lean against.

This thread would have been better if posted next Sunday (1st April)!
