Exposure Revo connectors

Post by Dave Barter »

It seems everything dynamo related hates me at the moment.

MY Redeye light was working intermittently last night and it appeared that a quick press on the connection to the Revo sorted it. I think the cable may be damaged internally and the best way to test this is to make up another cable. This will allow me to test whether the cable or head unit is at fault. Does anyone know the spec of the plug so I could get one from Maplin which is not too far from me and I could sort tonight?

Presumably you haven't got anything else exposure you could plug the redeye into?

Good thinking. I forgot the Joystick has an output. But I will still need plug if cable is duff to make a new one

Thought I'd ask just in case! If it still doesn't work at least you know it's the cable/connector that's the problem

I have no further help on this topic... apart from maybe emailing/asking someone at Exposure, or maybe speak to Smudge at MTB batteries, he makes battery packs for Exposure lights so will know what connector you need and probably have some in stock if you can't find them locally

FYI, the output on my Revo has died twice. Get a multimeter to check this first.

I had the ouput on my Revo fixed by Exposure as it never worked from new.

Mine too. They are easily killed if you plug the Dynamo feed into the output port by mistake.

My leads are marked better now to avoid this!

I'm pretty sure the connectors at 4.0 x 1.7mm.

Edit: knew there was a thread about it somewhere: http://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpBB ... tor#p39473

I've marked mine now to make sure I don't plug the leads in the wrong way after reading before about this issue. As the lead from the dyno is the only thing that should be plugged into the revo power-in socket it's a shame they didn't use a different plug/socket than the smart-port ones to make it impossible to get it wrong given the consequences (although I understand why for manufacturing cost reasons) , perhaps a Mk2 with this changed if anyone from USE is reading this. Also on the upgrade list, how about 1200 lumen at walking pace for tussock bashing

Right angled ones would be more reliable, anyone found a reliable source for those.

Amazing how long the MK1 Revo has been in production without updates, an on off switch was hinted at long ago.
Having said that my has had heavy use and has been faultless........ (kiss of death now of course)

It's ridiculous that it hasn't been updated

All the other lights can upgraded every year without fail, why don't they put some new LEDs in for either more lumens or less current draw

The plugs on both my lead from the dyno and to the red-eye rear are both right angled. Have they not always been like this?

Edit, just re-read your comment, do you mean after-market right angled plugs?

I've ended up with a bag of the female ones of these so likewise happy to share them if anyone wanted to make an extension lead or similar

Most kind Greg but the mighty Amazon will be knocking on my door soon. And right on cue my RedEye did not falter once over a long night ride tonight.

Handwritten address in blue ink. Folded piece of card with it inside?

RM seem flakier than they used to be. They lost loads of copies of the journal. Like 30 out of ~400

When I worked in Post Office engineering I often saw letter sorting machines being serviced and the engineers pulling out mail from the interior that had sat there for months....

Blue ink makes no odds, neither does handwriting as the images are video coded remotely by operators if the OCR fails.

I only mention that to check it was the one you sent rather than from someone else. Not that I was expecting another.

The envelope was very mangled so maybe a machine ate it?

Anyhow thanks for the connector. I’ll be soldering up an extension lead soon.

I took up Dave's generous offer, however RM chose to differ and charged me £1.50 to collect as they considered it Large Letter
