Bear Bones 200 ... FINISH TIMES
That's right people, entry is now open for the 2012 BB 200.
http://www.bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/pages/BB200.html
Remember, the BB 200 isn't a race. It's an individual time trial so everyone who makes it to the end is a winner, regardless of time. Fingers crossed that the weather will be as kind this year as it was last
This year there's also the option of a BB 200 T shirt for anyone who'd like one and by popular demand we'll be feeding you 'breakfast' type stuff upon your return.

Re: Bear Bones 200 ... On-line entry now open!
I am running the Cardiff half marathon in memory for a friend who passed away this year due to pancreatic cancer on the 14th, so I am unable to ride or assist this year sorry Stu, Dee
It seems this year I am destined to not ride as much as I'd like, I must align my bike/life calendar next year that's for sure

Be good to see you again gairy, have you worked out how many Star bars required? I entered once my pension came through.

Re: Bear Bones 200 ... On-line entry now open!
cool, will see you there!
and i'm not sure about the count yet - need to do some starbar-per-mile calculations and then figure out how i'm going to carry it all (it will be a lot though!).
i'm already worried about just how hard this is going to be - fun, fun, fun!

Re: Bear Bones 200 ... On-line entry now open!
When's the deadline to enter the BB200 Stuart? I'll know for sure if I'm up to riding it when I get back from cycling around Brittany in about three weeks time. Last time I did a 200k I got some achilles tendonitis trouble that kept me off the bike for a few weeks

Re: Bear Bones 200 ... On-line entry now open!
I was planning on doing this but my wife has since "reminded" me that it's my daughter's birthday party that day. I already got away with racing at Bikefest on my wife's birthday this year so I won't push my luck with this one!
Re: Bear Bones 200 ... On-line entry now open!
Could always ITT it.
Re: Bear Bones 200 ... On-line entry now open!
I didn't think you could, or not to record a time comparable with anyone else, due to the opportunity of picking especially favourable conditions or times of the year where there is more light?
Re: Bear Bones 200 ... On-line entry now open!
Theres nothing stopping ITT's during any other race at any other time of year so why should BB200 be any different?
Re: Bear Bones 200 ... On-line entry now open!
Selfsupporteduk has something about it I think, where there is a distinction against other routes. It's also the only one that isn't free.

Re: Bear Bones 200 ... On-line entry now open!
Quite right, there's nothing stopping anyone riding it whenever they like ... but on a certain weekend in Oct it becomes an event rather than just a routeTheres nothing stopping ITT's during any other race at any other time of year so why should BB200 be any different?

Re: Bear Bones 200 ... 4 days left to enter.
That's right folks, entries for the 2012 BB 200 close on Sep 30th.
On Oct 1st everyone entered will receive an email containing a gpx file of the route and a few other bits and bobs ... if you've entered but don't get an email, let me know. I'll also post up a start list too for anyone interested.

Re: Bear Bones 200 ... START LIST
Okay, entries have now closed and the route email has left the building. You may notice a note on your email about a small detour, this is at SN 721537. The detour turns LEFT at this junction although there is no left turn shown on the OS mapping ... Thanks to Ian for the info on this.

Going through the gpx file...
1st question: is the route on the east side of Garreg-ddu reservoir on the road (and the gpx file just wanders a bit), or is there an offroad track?

Re: Bear Bones 200 ... START LIST
Cycle track - it's an old railway line that drops down all the way from the toilets at Craig Goch to the bridge dam at the south end of Garreg Ddu. It's rather nice.
Re: Bear Bones 200 ... START LIST
Is that at the south west corner of the route in Bryn Carregog?s8tannorm wrote:SN 721537
Is the route ment to follow the forest track south? It doesnt match up with the google image.

Re: Bear Bones 200 ... START LIST
Yes, pretty much. The 'new' route follows a forest track that doesn't yet seem to show on OS mapping. The route comes to a T junction west of Llether and turns right. The old route had you carrying straight on down to the road.Is that at the south west corner of the route in Bryn Carregog?

The new route takes the next left turn down to the road.
Sorry if it looks a bit wiggly but I had to plot it 'by eye' ... just take the left turn which won't be on the map
*Sorry if non of that makes any sense.

Re: Bear Bones 200 ... START LIST
I recall the T junction last year and could not see any path going straight on but the gps correctly sent me up there. Saw a couple bivvying along that section.
So who is going for Ian's Strava KoM on the Strata Florida climb then?

I know it's too early, but I can't help myself; I've started looking at the weather forecast.
Are we parking in the field Stu? Got the tractor ready for Sunday afternoon?

Looking a tad damp, doesn't it?
Re: Bear Bones 200 ... START LIST
XCWeather says dry, I'll stick with that thanks. 8-)
