I came across the this blog while researching what bikepacking is all about.

I imagine that could be really confusing ... there you are with notions of lightweight travel and google turns that up

Surely this was in the 'what not to do' section? I honestly cannot believe that bike has ever gone further than the field at the bottom of the garden. Lack of mud is a giveaway, and unless the rider in an Olympian, they couldn't move all that crap very far.

I follow the guy on Instagram, to be fair he seems to live off his bike year round, is currently travelling around Scandinavia. Probably does more miles than anyone on here and if his setup works for him, what's the problem?

If it works, fine. I'm just frankly amazed that it's possible to propel that along.

Having said that, I see hundreds of LEJOG/JOGLE bikes every year and I also wonder how some of them ever make it.

That bike just looks blinking sinister to me. Stick a couple of rocket launchers either side and it would be well at home in a war zone. Or a James Bond film. A bit like that sinisterised railway locomotive which hauls Sean Bean's HQ train in "Goldeneye". Which, in a quirk of digression, my mate Dave owns. He's not very sinister himself though I have to say, in case his lawyers are BBBers.

I hate the way the term Adventure Bike has been exploited to market drop bar versions of what we rode 30 years ago. So here is a different interpretation:

Let's be honest, taken in its true context, 'adventure' has absolutely nothing to do with any style of bike. You don't have an adventure because you're riding X or Y. Sadly, the word has being corrupted beyond recognition in an attempt to pander to peoples vanity. I ride this, lifting me above the mundain and making me an adveturer ... all the folk on fb and 'insta' will look at me afresh from now on.

Riding a Raleigh Chopper or a butchers bike is much more likely to result in adventure ... whether you put drops on it or not

On my way into the house the other day with my chosen ride (basically a posh 80's mtb with drops) a new neighbour said "Oh - is that a touring bike?"

It was easiest to just say yes.
