Hi All

Have a free weekend and I am taking a colleague out on his first bikepacking multi day. Looks for something out of Manchester Piccadilly on a Friday night then return late Sunday.
I have looked at straight out of Manchester on the bikepacking site but it's got lots of road.
Has anyone got anything that is more off road.

Stu... from Manchester grab the train towards Glossop. Once off the train (mayne Stalybridge) the Peaks200 isn't too fsr away... Nor is the Pennine Bridleway if you wanna cycle it down towards Derby then train back home.

The bikes will be fully packed as it will be after the kids go back to school so a bit colder.

Not sure if you can see that Stu but it's what I made to go see Karl n Co at Chapel ELF.... I did it just past Glossop and then got a shortcut to Chapel CoOp and the night ride with them before reconnecting towards Sheffield in the morning. I definitely reckon you'd enjoy it as it gives a real feel for the Peaks (but doesn't go all the way down). Could catch it from Stalybridge which would drop it down to about 40 miles total ride (but it's mainly tough IMO).

Regards the Peaks200... well, I've started it twice

I also have a route that loops back to Dewsbury (100km) if you want that. Called the Peaks100 and its got a thread with times... (if you want).

*NorthPeaks100. (The path to) Wessenden Head is it's prettiest point and I don't think you'd see a better view point for many miles around here (I've loved it for almost 12 years and still not bored of it).

Two very good shouts from Shaf re: setting off from Stalybridge and doing something based on the Peaks 200.

I'd get the train up to Staly (and have a setting-off pint in the pub on the station platform then set off on the outer loop anti-clockwise. There's some reasonably tough climbing in there but if you're going at touring pace you'll be fine. The riding and scenery is excellent.

If you don't feel like going all the way round you have plentiful options for getting the train back across to Picadilly on Sunday from Hathersage or any of the stations on the line to the west - you could ride back into Hope/Edale or whatever.

Train to Macc.... ride up through Macc Forest on trails.. Three Shires Head or Cat/Fiddle Axe Edge area into upper Dove valley.... Flash Bar cafe.... north end of Tissington Trail etc etc.... done that several times.... upper Dove in particular is massively underrated.. all off road round Longnor/Hartington... New 'honesty cafe' with posh coffee and cake at Hollinsclough... etc....

Also plenty off road around Monyash, Taddington, Tideswell... easy to reach there and back in 2 days from Macc or Hope stations... or how about out via Macc, curve round to Tideswell then back home via Hope station. Or probably best other direction as less uphill. Big advantage that area - loads of cafes, pubs and bivvy spots.... Could sort you with an almost entirely offroad route apart from a few hundred yards each end

Don't tell anyone else though....

I'd get the train to Buxton and either get off at Chapel or Dove Holes. Lots of options from either station.
