Blackdown Hills Devon - Question

Post by trogladytes »

Is anyone knowledgeable of/local to this area and able to recommend routes?

I have the chance to stay there for a few days, on the western side of the AONB. I won't have transport other than the bike (cx or hardtail mtb, not decided which to take yet) so any routes starting near Honiton would be great.

I've looked here https://blackdownhillsaonb.org.uk/walk- ... se-riding/
most of the cycle routes are road, so i looked at the horseriding routes. Am i right in thinking that if it's ok for a horse it's ok for a bike? The problem is, i'm looking at the map in ridewithgps and not sure what the bridleways look like, using the osmcycle map. So the other question is are the the green dotted lines?

So, is there anyone local to here that could give me a few pointers? Off road but not technical preferable, but i don't mind a bit of walking.
I know this looks lazy but i'm just not very good at planning routes yet, but every time i ride someone else's i learn a bit more about it.

I like using rowmaps for this kind of thing. You can uncheck the footpath option in the preferences, then it just shows you bridleways, restricted byways and BOATs. I then plot my route on Ride With GPS, using a combination of its mapping, rowmaps and Google Maps.

There are theories at the bottom of my jargon.
