Brittany, no not Ms Spears

Post by Loki » Thu Feb 28, 2019 1:54 pm

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has any experience riding over in Brittany? I did a 5 day road tour a few years ago and really enjoyed it, so come this September Mrs Loki has given me a leave pass to go for a play and I am thinking of heading back over, particularly to the Monts d'Arrée area for some off road fun or at least find a loop to the west with as much dirt as I can squeeze in, although I have noticed the coast does hold what looks like some interesting dirt links, the plan so far is staying low key and wild camping with maybe one site night for a shower and sailing in via Roscoff. Any thoughts?

Yes
I live in Brittany
Check out the gr routes
Gr37 is my nearest
Some are footpaths only
They are way marked
Well suited to gravel/xc bikes
The coast looks appealing but is mainly on foot only so could meet with opposition from ramblers.
Lots of grande promenade routes too. These are usually mainly tarmac but sometimes disappear into woods or gravel tracks.
Some interesting terrain in the huelgoat area. And also the pink granite coast is worth a visit.
Grubby little urchin.

Apologies for the late reply and thanks for the information, I am slowly putting a route together, the Hulegoat area is great and the Monts D'Aree will feature on the loop, I am going to look at gpx tracks from Gravel tro Breizeh for help and inspiration.

Sorry for slight hijack but im doing Gravel tro Briezh in May. Due to the way leave fell at work i have time both before and after the event, so intend to ride with my partner from Cherbourg to Rennes.
Can anyone recommend a decent route that keeps us away from traffic?
Thanks
Ian

Nice one, let me know how you get on, I am hoping to enter the race as my 50th birthday treat, the whole area is lovely to ride around, I have not been over Rennes way yet but there are a couple of routes that can be merged.

I have settled on my own route for July, a short jolly to watch the start of the Transcontinental 2020, my route shares part of the Gravel tro Breizh route and with a little searching I linked up a load of gravel sections to make a fun ride
