Shropshire and the Elan Valley - any recommendations?

Post by Bearlegged »

In need of some decompression time, I've agreed with Mrs Bearlegged that she and the bairns will stay with her mum in Shropshire during October half term, while I go off pedalling.

I fancy visiting the Elan Valley, like the look of Stiperstones, and want to revisit the Kerry Ridgeway and Long Mynd. Pretty much everything else is up for debate. Bike will be the gradventourer (700x42c, low gears). Bivvy kit will be carried, but I also reserve the right to dip into bothies and/or B&Bs.

I've cobbled together the following route, taking in part of the Trans Cambrian Way, and relying on Komoot* to link everything up:
https://www.komoot.com/tour/474997091?s ... h7&ref=wtd

I'm thinking on taking about 4 days/3nights to do it, all being well.
Any recommendations of nice places to ride through/stop/eat & drink/kip gratefully received. Similarly, if there are any bits that will be utter misery and should be avoided, I'd like to hear about them too; this is not to be a journey of self-flagellation.

Thanks in advance...

*Yes, I realise this is a risky approach.

That looks alright generally. Certainly nothing 'nasty' in there.

Food wise, stock up when and where you can - you'll hit very little between towns.
May the bridges you burn light your way
