I have a bottom end, fairly new singer sewing machine.
I want to mend some motorcycle gloves which are leather by unpicking the now fluffy velcro and stiching new onto it.
Any reason, before I start, why my machine wont go through fairly tough leather?

You'll just have to try it Dave. I've a similar machine and it all seems to hinge on the exact leather. These days, I tend to sew anything leather by hand. I mark the stitch hole spacing with the prongs of a fork, make the holes with a bradawl and sew with waxed leather thread.

When I've repaired stuff made of leather I tend to hand sew and just use the existing holes in the leather. You'll have a better idea when you unpick it. If trying the machine you can get special leather needles.

I'm crap at hand stiching so was trying to use the machine, but I will have a go by hand as advised

I'm terrible at hand stitching but as the holes are already there for me it keeps it neat.
