Where Can I Buy a Sew-On Hydration Port?

Post by The Cumbrian »

I want to add a port for a hydration bladder tube to my bike's frame bag. Is it possible to buy a sew-on port from anywhere?

Cheers, Michael.

I've never seen such a thing but fabbing something from a piece of Hypalon shouldn't be too difficult ... reckon I'd start by cutting a small cross in the centre of a piece and passing the tube through the resulting 'cat's bum' :-bd

I suspected that I might have to down that route, but was hoping that there would be something available commercially that's a bit neater.

Could you perhaps cut one from an old bag? Plenty of cheap rucksacks and things have them fitted.

I would just sew two pieces of lmaterial of your choice] together with an overlap to create a horizontal slot with a baffle. Hard to explain but simple to do. Like this bit on my frame bag (where it's actually the whole front panel that's like this, but you could easily make a small panel to sew into an existing bag):

I can send you some but.... how about bonding some inner tube or side wall on the outside with rubber cement? tiny hole punch each end of line you cut & centre of 'X'.
I have some Hypalon but it's awkward to sew. drags thread and is tough to punch needle through. . you need to use waxed/ lubed (silicone polish spray - pledge) thread & an oversized needle... size19/110 etc
also a patch over the port either inside or out to prevent water running in...
just my tw'pennth..
now do you cut a line an 'X' or a 'Y' to self....

Thanks everyone, looks like I'll be using a piece of innertube.

Cheers, Michael.
