More frame gear, long burn project

I've just Completed making and testing a full set of bags. A rain pogies, trowel & wallet.. Trowel not vx21.
all the gear survived but there was rub between seat bag & mudguard.
the overtrousers,(purple nasties) were essential, kept me warm, after a very wet night..., gear P!$$ wet from storm night before & tent collapsing... Eventful S48O...

The hardlebar harness bar bag combo. It has so many straps, a mate got exited and thought it was from S&M!
The strap at top go round bars, tube spaces.
the grey pvc strap tubes (picture centre) strap to forks. It has been really solid.

Nice, there's a lot of work (and thought) gone into them. The reflective bands on the bar harness are a nice touch.

What caught my eye was the fact that you're wearing purple trousers Which reminds me I need to get on with my myog long-johns in bright orange gridded-fleece.

Edit, on second thoughts, perhaps you're not in the purple trousers as how would you be taking the picture So you have friends with purple trousers.

Thanks guys. I was in the Purple nasties. Specially cut for biking. The are curved at hips and knees, have mesh uppers,( covered by rain jacket), an covered outer thigh vents. I made them about 2005. I never get cold in the rain....
It's not very clear but this is how the harness fits..
The octopuses of strap holds the grey stays in place on top the fork crown. My Magura have a distinct front edge, the a notch on the stays feet mates with this. The straps are tensioned then cam around the crown. This make a stiffen support similar to a Kanga. Since the brace is an inverted triangle the bag doesn't slide down the frame. A top bar finished the triangle, supports the bar bag and the stand off push away from bars .

Agreed, that looks really well put together. I think I can see how the bar harness works, but I'd also appreciate pics of it attached.

There's quite a lot of extra bits and pieces - it all looks very well thought out, but I wonder how much extra weight is added? This isn't intended as a criticism, just interested: weight isn't everything.

Does the seatpack have a mesh pocket under the shock cord?

The complete hand bar bag is about 500g.
That's a bit of weight but rock solid support. Maybe I could source lighter stays, use a lighter cordura as liner inside the hardness, but it grip the contents so well.. The tubes were plumbing/ electrical surplus (offcuts).
It carried 2kg without flinching, I haven't loaded it further.. It may help front traction..
5kg may be pushing it.

YES Mesh under shock cord, ideally to dry not lose stuff...

That sounds reasonable given the stability you've got, which is great when you have suspension. I wouldn't want to have more than 2.5kg on the bars anyway.

The trouser have darts at the knees, I copied of a pair of old baggie craghopopper that were worn out. Slashed at knees & 'seat' to work out were to added a, bit to waist and legs, to allow, darts to allow for bent over position on a bike.
Maybe rain chaps (not YMCA edition) are a good project to start. Lighter & simple. They are un taped but you can sweat out on a bike any how, hence all mesh for venting on sides & waist band... I can dig out a pattern from some late 70s MYOG books..

Trouser, took an old pair, loose fit, slashed at knees & seat, so added allowance for darts. These make fit better when seated on the bike. Added mesh at top to breath better (chimney effect, like mesh pockets) Added vents on side & storm flaps later. Iif I made again I would now make larger at waist, contentment and use resin not metal popper, not available then...

Them trousers look fantastic, great thought and design, I had a similar
Pair around 1984ish, they were made for riding motorcycle trials etc, the
Material was thicker and they were vented and cut like that sort of but no
Mesh added, they undid all the way up the side so you could put them on quick
If needed, can't remember the make but I think they were in "Ossa" colours,
No idea where they are now......good skills there

Full length zips are nothing new. But can be a PITA, with braces (advised with overtrews generally, they creep down with use...).
On the 'push bike saddle', with side zips open, they sag or catch . Hence mesh added to control 'sag'. They evolved as they were made.... Side zips, then flaps /nesh ankle patches, finally elastic silicone gripper tape.
Weight, weighty at 260g!
