• 100g tarp

Back on this. Made a couple of alterations and I'm starting to like it. By no means a stand alone shelter but it provides a surprising amount of additional coverage for those in a bivvy. There's certainly enough room beneath to brew up, sort / stash your kit and keep the rain off a decent amount of your person.

Yeah, the micro tarp and waterproof bivvy bag appeals. I've used my Siltarp 1 a bit like that but much of it ends up flat on the ground and therefore unnecessary. Is that the spinnaker fabric?

It is Colin. With Spectra lines in place, it weighs 99g.

Better abrasion resistance but mainly - have you seen the price of Cuben these days. I'd much prefer them to be affordable

Perhaps the question should be, why Cuben?

I don’t like Cuben, personally, having tried it and gone back to silpoly. Not much heavier for something that will last much longer, is much easier to pitch, and packs way smaller.
As you say, cost is a factor - it was also hard to justify how much I had wrapped up in a cuben tarp!

But, having not been interested in the lightweight stuff when spinnaker was being kicked around the UL backpacking world - why did it drop out of favour?

It is still used a bit in the US - Gossamer gear spring to mind. I imagine the reason is one of 'newness' and the desire to shed even more weight. Sometimes we simply can't help ourselves

I'm sure they still make the Spinn-shelter but as you say, nothing listed on their site. Maybe I'm thinking of another company and not the Spinn-shelter.

Like that Stu, what size is it?

I've got some silnylon I never used I might give this a go if I can find the time. How do you attach the guys is it grosgrain?

Sizing is a bit odd as it's actually 'shaped' rather than a square or rectangle.

Yep, 6mm crossgrain for the lines.

It is. I've just made a few adjustments so it can be pitched with either end 'up' which adds a bit more protection should you wish but at the sake of height.

I can only source it in white and blue - I figure the dark blue blends in well to a night sky / damp dark ditch.

Price? I wasn't sure whether to offer it as a tarp only or bundle it up with a pole. I suppose i could do both. Tarp with lines, probably about £60.

Stu.. do you have a price for this tarp yet please sir... plus, would it fit the pole you made me (you made it to work with a SMD lunar solo as well as a TT AFAIR...)

As I say, likely to be around £60 Shaf. The pole in the pictures is 106cm but is just the first thing I picked up - it'll work fine with most things from 100cm (ish) - 120cm (ish). There are small steel O rings at each end for a pole tip to sit in (makes setting the thing up quicker and easier for those not used to tarps). However, you don't have to use them and a longer pole would likely work better if the pole was set further away from the tarp.

You could probably clove hitch a line around a pole at any height too, I’ve done this regularly with trekking poles. I’ve only just switched to Stu’s poles though so not tried it yet.
Planning my first outing I realised all my shelters need trekking poles for support, a good excuse to buy more kit

You could but no real need. With decent tips, simply wrap the line 2-3 times round the tip, peg the line out and it'll all stay in place.
