So I recently (ie today, a few minutes ago) came across this https://bikepacking.com/gear/wayward-ri ... ss-review/

Its a really great, simple design. So I went to look to purchase one. Problem number 1 - made and sold in New Zealand, had a look around and could find any UK distributors. Problem number 2 - out of stock. Problem number 3 - its very expensive!

So I started to tinker around with an idea to make something similar. In the end all I would need is bendable plastic and a few webbing straps.

Does anyone know of a decent bendable plastic for such a thing?

I have made a handlebar harness using plastic sheet that was previously an A4 plastic ring binder from the pound shop. When you remove the clip mechanism you end up with a piece A3 size.

How did you find that harness in terms of rigidness and wear and tear? I was thinking about trying that but was a little worried that it would bend far too much and then wear through pretty quickly.

Maybe one of those large floppy plastic buckets would be a suitable source to cut the pattern out of?

Just about any thin plastic would do the job. Any craft shops nearby, they're usually a good source?

Funnily enough I've got some plastic card arriving tomorrow. A4 sheets, 3mm thick. eg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163153035389. Going to make a rear mudguard extender. Today I first tried making one from a 2L plastic milk bottle - works, but smells a bit funny .

Gaffer tape! No, hear me out . Long sufferers on Here will know about my gaffer tape stem cell for a 500ml water bottle - weighs about 15g. Fancy impressing us with a duct tape seat harness?!

Wow, love the ingenuity on the big bucket and the duct tape plan! That's some proper Macgyver stuff.

Going to hit up one of the local craft shops to see what they have in store before I try either of those out though.

The harness is very good - Stu posted the link a few years back, something like "No sew handlebar harness". I will try to post some pics. this evening. Reg has it right, although the pound shop folder cover works, I thought that something a bit more "polythene" would be more robust. Something cut from a 5 gallon distilled water drum would be ideal (missed one outside a shop recently)

Get down your local B&M - pack of 4 plastic cutting mats (different colours for different foodstuffs) for a few quid.
Nice and thing, easy to cut, bendable but stiff enough

Hmmmm.... potential to double up use for food preparation! Never again will I be struggling to find a place to cut up a sausage while camping.
