The Badger Divide In Pictures

Post by Escape Goat »

In place of the TNR was the Badger Divide. Me and two friends (Brian and Stuart) decided to attempt this ride over 4 days...turns out for me it was a 5-day route!

We got the 5 am Train from Manchester with cycle reservation, and then a train from Glasgow - Perth without a reservation (stressy) and then Perth to Inverness on an over full bike carriage train....we arrived just after 12.

Great Glen Way - been wanting to get on this for 2 years now.

Wondering where to actually bivvy....

Image

Camp turned out well, though I had to put full dry bags down under my sleeping mat to even it out and make it flat.

Image

Image

We woke up and packed down...no midgies...then

After dinner, we said hello to General Wade.

We met a chap halfway up in this hut....

The FUN decent is just over this next brow.

Image

Wishing we could stay at a bothy tonight, we carried on past some amazing scenery.

It was now quiet time for the group. I put my iPod on and let the others head out in front.

Image

Catching up for a few grunts of how much further (we didn't have a clue, though I hoped to make it to Corrour)

Image

I was empty at 8pm....it was getting closer to 12am, I could barely pedal my 75lbs of bike.

Image

To stop, we all know we need two things, water, and a relatively dry pitch.

Image

10 hours later, we made it to Corrour - 100k in under the tyres, we couldn't wait to pitch. We were going to sneek on the hostels grounds and seek forgiveness the next day, though a group had privately booked out their grounds. They spoke to us a bit longer and divulged the real reason we couldn't camp with them - they were naturists!

Reality view - we did have the above view, but it was from this...

Image

I told you, naturists! Setting off on around a 30km long hike, with shoes and a backpack on (didn't think it was right posting a picture of him without some sort of cover up for his lower downs!)

Image

Corrour station, the most remotest of the stations! Also, where transporting was filmed! "We are the lowest of the low!"

We jumped the train (literally) and nipped down to Ardlui with a view to nip over to Callander, rest, beer and pizza up for the last day riding.

I let these go ahead again for the 50k route. I turned up at 9pm after riding 88k as I went the wrong way. I rode to Tyndrum first ! It went dark and then I found a high vis gilet from a works van on the floor, I stopped, put it on, and off I went into the night again.

Image

Some of you know when I ride for days on end or hours on end, I get indigestion, even from water. I ordered a stiff double...milk from the bar in Callander. He was a fellow mountain biker and was genuinely made up that he served a pint of milk!

Image

Setting off for the final day Callander - Glasgow

And we are done!

I'll probably edit a film together for YouTube - it was a right blast!

Hopefully this didn't bore you :)

How was the sleeping bag? Were you warm enough?
Nice write up. Very glad the naturists weren't at Loch Ossian when we were there last month :o
