Carneddau

Post by summittoppler »

I thought I'd post a separate thread for this as I've got quite a few pics!

So I went out last night for my first overnighter since January. I know we're not supposed to be spending a night outdoors due to Covid but seeing as you can swan around Primark (not that I want to), go for a pint (Wales is tomorrow) and protest with thousands of others, I thought why not

So armed with my sleeping bag, air bed and tarp (I forgot my bivvy bag!) I headed into the Carneddau at 860 metres for a night based a few hundred east of Foel Grach. I was well away from any path and had some fine views.

I had a great night watching the comet, 1 shooting star, 5 satellites (or UFO's) and just taking in the superb view down to my hometown on the coast. and all from the sleeping bag.

After packing up and LNT, I went up to Carnedd Llewellyn for 9am where I saw one fell runner and more fine views.

A great off piste descent into Cwm Eigiau with the occasional piece of airplane dotted about! This descent certainly keeps you on yer toes as you find a line through the knee high grass.

Some pics...

Very nice. I feel like I could do with some proper mountains (lovely as the Peak is).
I bought all the OS maps for Snowdonia this spring, and am looking forward to using them at some point..

This is a wonderful area. Great views and vaguely exciting mountains, and empty compared with the snowdon range and the glyderrau

Never been by bike, looks a good trip!
