Hi, ive been following this event casually for a couple of years.
Has anyone on here done it? Or thought about it and discounted it for some dreadful reason i have overlooked?

Any thoughts or experience gratefully received

Ian

Not heard of that before, looks a great route and a nice time of year for it. Pretty challenging timings though for mortals!

I'd fancy a route that goes up the east side with a bit less time pressure, but either way it'd feel like a big ride in a big country.

It seems great, but its pretty tough. The entry form is like the TCR with you having to explain the rules etc.
I have no idea how much English is spoken, or even if there is anyone to speak it to. Im guessing my poor Franch and worse Welsh would be redundant.
Its meant to be after the rain, but before the snow. Although some chance of <0° C.

Finnish is a tough language to get your head round, but I think over 60% speak English as a second language well enough to have a conversation, and younger people especially will likely speak it better than you. That's way more than you'd experience in France or other European countries...but as you say, the further north you ride, the population density gets really low so fewer chances to speak anyway. Finns are also notoriously introspective (a good thing in my eyes!) so you're not going to be called on to make small talk often!

So the only real obstacle is my ability to ride that far.....

I have been following it for a couple of years and it does appeal. Might look at 2021 route depending on other plans. Seem to recall organiser has a few years of routes planned.

We were in Roveniemi two years ago and a lot of English spoken. Food, drink and bum cream are all easy enough to ask for by pointing etc.
