This weekend, Steve Waters and myslef attempted the Lakeland 300.

We set of from Staveley at 7pm on Friday night and managed to get to Grisedale visitors centre for our first bivvy / camp.

The next morning we were up at 530am with a dry start but it wanst long before the rain and wind set in, and we had a tough day ahead.

We rode to about 7pm, at which point, i was pretty dead.

We stumbled across a pub, which had a litttle shed with a bunk bed. I immediatley ordered food / 4 pints and had a good rest.

It meant we had to cut out the section over high street, but the time constraints with getting back home for 6pm on Sunday meant that we couldnt fit in in.

It was a cracking ride, but tough, very wet, cold and generally just blinking hard.

Will defo come back again at this one, but will travel lighter with bivvy instead of tent and also do in height of summer when its bone dry.

That's a cracking effort, especially given wet conditions and weather.

Good effort - the 200 is hard enough!! It’s all good prep for the HT, and the crap weather makes it more realistic!

A proper ride that

None of that gravel sh1te here...

Alex might have been "dead" on the Saturday night but the beers did the trick because he rode a heavily-laden hardtail up and down a sodden Garburn Pass without a single dab.
It's an ace route, but really tough. - The record is showing as 21.5 hours for the route which is mind-boggling.
In addition to the High Street section, we haven't yet sampled the section from Cockermouth to Skiddaw House either.
Also, the Old Coach Road was a bit more than I was expecting - Lady Chatterley, Byron, Shelley etc. must have been beaten up big time in their Surrey on some of those sections.

"Pod" was how the landlord described it and what the key ring said. As Alex says, "shed" is the accurate term. It was like a palace to us mind

Shed, with beer on tap and not enough room for social contact. Sounds ideal.
