Monadliath Military 200

Post by ScotRoutes »

My second attempt at this route, this time in company of metalheart and friend David, and starting/ending in Inverness rather than Aviemore

This is Flora Macdonald trying to look ahead down the route for us

Leaving the Wade road for a short diversion at the Slochd

Friday night bivvy spot at the Uath Lochan. THankfully, we managed to avoid all the campervans. Great spot though.

Essential sustenance at Laggan before the ride over the Corrieyairack.

And some pleasant woody stuff to drop us back in Inverness.

3 days, 215km, 3,380m of ascent

I'd changed chain and cassette prior to the ride and it all seemed fine but I was getting horrendous chainsuck under load when in the granny gear. As a result, I managed almost the whole trip in 36-42 and I'm having thoughts about 50T cassettes and 1x gears.

Lack of thought also had me not applying insect repellent and not using the bug net on my bivvy bag. As a result I had to remove 21 ticks on getting back home. Plus, possibly caused by dehydration (again my fault) I've been throwing up all day and feel crap.

I spewed my ringer yesterday evening. I am a puker, but I guess its a bit of a coincidence. David thinks it was the S&V crisps what done it...

Total tick tally for the lunar solo boys: zero... :-bd

Oh, and I was 250km, don't know the total altitude but I was 3028m for Sat & Sun.
Give the dirt a little room.

Nice one chaps, that climb out of Loch Tarf is a cracker, especially if you've just ground your way up from Ft Augustus :YMSICK:

Note to self, ride bicycle on south Loch Ness trail this year and ride motorcycle on road roughly parallel to same

That looks ace. Although the tick count put me off a bit. I am going on holiday to the Cairngorms in May after the WRT and was planning on taking a bike...
