Gelder Shiel Stables. Ones bothy....

Post by Borderer »

Joe and I had an eventful trip to Gelder Shiel Stables recently. A terrible crime was committed there....

Good choice for an overnighter there, am planning to take my wee fella out there in the spring too. Met Prince Phillip there a few years back when we were having a picnic on the lawn outside - he just did a loop round the building in his Range Rover, gave us a wave and drove off. Suppose he's still allowed to drive there at least nowadays!

I stopped in at the bothy for a look around a few years back. It’s proper posh. I’ve paid good money for much less comfortable accommodation. It is a bleak setting, though. And woe betide anyone who follows the wrong ‘track’ away across the bog.

lovely trip out.

I systematically rack my brain for a career change that would allow me more time with my offspring. so far, no joy.

Great to see you enjoying that time I crave. :-bd

Thanks for that. I have tried to find ways to earn money that don't actually require me to be present at the time. There isn't one easy way to do this, so I have ended up with multiple income streams that individually aren't worth a damn, but collectively add up to something that we can just about get by on. Accepting a low income is part and parcel of that though. We can do this where we live as our accommodation costs are so low - our flat cost just £22k in 2016 and I now own it outright, which means no mortgage/rent to pay every month. This wasn't just a happy accident - we moved out of expensive Edinburgh for the sake of cheap housing in a more remote area that puts us closer to wild places - it just depends on what that is worth to you and what you are prepared to sacrifice for it I guess. I hope you find a way to get more of what you want in the future too.

Gelder is much improved - Used to be a cold bothy, without a fire (especially in winter)
Not visited recently - if that's the standard of visitor then I will need to be on my guard
