Re: Cranktank 3 vs cages on fork + smartwater bottles
So is it common for churches and graveyards to have taps to refill? good to know Very common. Village halls another good one in my experience. Maybe turned off in winter though. There was a suggestion on Here a while ago that we all chipped in to create a map of them. I prefer the fun of finding th...

Re: Cranktank 3 vs cages on fork + smartwater bottles
Firstly, hope you enjoyed your trip  I've never carried more than 500ml and a filter. 3 litres of water would far and away be the single heaviest thing you carried. Every time you filter and fill your 500ml bottle, drink it straightaway then filter another 500ml to take with you. My 500ml bot...

.... but a good opportunity to say thank you for everything. "Thanks" is lame and inadequate but there we go that's all I can manage in the time allowed .

Re: packable fleece?
Maybe I misread the product description in a review which said it had "zero" windproofness and all heat would be whipped away in a wind. 20mph on a bike is pretty windy. I'm just rebelling against something that doesn't sound perfect for £100 and needs a top layer (negating the weight savi...

Re: packable fleece?
If you always have to wear the shell to make sure you don't lose all the heat kept in by the mid layer, then that doesn't sound like a very flexible system. A layer should be removable if the conditions don't need it. My cheapo base and fleece(s) are warm and I add a U/L rain top if it rains or is v...

My Core Hoodies are half the weight and volume of classic fleeces offering comparable warmth. Always interested in looking at lighter fleeces, so had a nosy. https://www.facewest.co.uk/OMM-Core-Fleece-Jacket.html?Product_Attributes%5B1%5D:value=GreyM&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwn7mwBhCiARIsA...

Re: packable fleece?
Hah! I remember everyone extracting the Michael about my fleeces . Have worn 'em for pretty much all of my outings. Bamboo baselayer then one or two Berghaus fleeces (325g each) plus rain top. Nowt fancy. As said, warm enough when damp, easy to layer.

Re: WRT GR's
^ yes the randomly-bumping-into-other-crackpots but then bouncing off in another direction is a huge part of the WRT event (arg) I think. If you devise a route (arg) in a totally different direction I think you miss out on a big part of the experience (arg). You may as well have just 'done a solo tr...

nothing living is self supported Good point, albeit reductive  . Hence why I don't think food and drink (and breathing/weeing/pooing?) are part of the 'bikepacking' definition. I'll STFU Nah, keep going, we're getting down to the esoteric nitpicking silly stuff now  . Mrs P is waving ...

try the tfl River Bus Many years ago we took the kids to Greenwich and part of the journey was by River Bus from Charing Cross. From there down river we pootled along at about 1 or 2mph, sorry knots, or something, a bit like a floating brick, pointing out all the sights etc. Kids not all that impre...

I do wonder about the company you keep V :???: Just read V's report and my head is in a complete spin! A right sensory and incident overload there V, top work. Hiring 8 bikes in a row is a clever idea. Reckon the adjudicators have got to let that BaM through simply for the lunacy value. Chalk it up...
