Ironically I'm in Machynlleth now without my spare dakota mount and won't be back home until it's too late to lend one.

If you're quick you can get one next day on Amazon prime.

Re: Cable discs: advise me

I've had bikes with BB7s and Spyres. Both have been perfectly fine, if I had to pick one over the other I'd pick the Spyres.

At the risk of stating the obvious have you cleaned the discs/pads and checked the set up? I've never heard a squeak out of mine.

MTB batteries offerings are a good compromise between cost/performance, properly QC'd light units and chargers paired with UK made batteries.

Re: CO2 impact of bikepacking travel or an event

Maybe James, I honestly don't know. Interested to see how the numbers add up. Just thinking how you could in theory offset the carbon of a lot of things by not flying, but a bike is one of the few things that really can offer an alternative to flying somewhere. Assuming that Trek's figures were any...

Re: Cycling UK "threatening to take Govt to Court" over Cast2Coast Trail

I wish them luck and the over-riding cynic within reckons they'll need it. I firmly believe that giving greater access to cyclists at present would be viewed as a 'vote loser' by many in power. Ah, but then it will also give the Horsey types full access. No doubt an existential crisis in the making...

Yep, these are good and pack down well. The Madison ones with zip off legs are worth a look if you want to have waterproof shorts as well or a tougher pair.

One of these with a dry bag on top and the option for their gravel panniers/normal panniers if more space needed. Presume small frame also precludes a decent sized frame bag.

I have a helinox one and it is very nice. I also have an amazon one that cost £23 and it's also pretty good.

If you bought the helinox one for £100 it's worth it but if you bought the knock off one for £40 you might as well get a knock off one for £23!

I've tried all the usual things but like you have come to the conclusion that it's not really fit for purpose! Is it just iPhones or would a Samsung be just as bad? By and large Samsungs come with a bigger battery and some have an OLED screen (but so does your X iirc) which are more efficient but I...

I haven't used a phone as my main navigation for a few years now for this reason so I don't know if modern phones should be better. Have you tried turning the screen brightness down? Other than that usb batteries and a cable will be your best bet.

Does your phone have "face unlock" and could you use a volume key as the shutter release? I've found compact cameras very underwhelming in recent years compared to phones.
