Re: "Can we make bikes sustainable again?" article
"green electricity" Uhm but where do you start and stop with that - do we consider the power required to produce turbines, panels etc or the impact of cutting forests and burning wood at Drax? I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as 'green electricity' Oh absolutely. The problem I...

Re: "Can we make bikes sustainable again?" article
I'm surprised electric isn't rated worse / higher given what it takes to produce them and the fact they need charging? Or am I reading the figures wrong? When Trek did their report I did see it mentioned that there was a decent argument that a bike running 50/50 on "green electricity" had...

Are your routes pinned on RWGPS? I haven't used my elemnt for a while having bought another Garmin but I thought it only synced pinned rides from RWGPS.

I got a custom Straight Cut on my Cutthroat. Fits perfectly and Ross kindly sewed all my patches on the bag for me when putting it together.

Speaking as someone who has little to no decent gradient within spitting distance of my garage, this would be handy. However $3495 seems a lot (even for
pro mechanic) unless you have scores of brakes needing bedding in.

This looks a good alternative https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBOOBZ29SX/on-one-bootzipper-29er-sram-sx-steel-mountain-bike If you can live without suspension then yes. I'd also have to wait until the price dropped down again, these have been £600 or perhaps even less. There are some shop soiled ones...

They are comfy and great on the bike but the tread is hard plastic. Fine on soft terrain but slippery on hard surfaces. Certainly 25 quids worth.voodoo_simon wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 3:43 pm No idea of quality but disco shoes for £25

Bombtrack bikes also cheap from their ex-importer. Looks like some are a bit cheaper and some a bit dearer!

Re: Specialized and Adventure?
Unpopular opinion - but this reads to me as Specialized slim down their sales force. The term "ambassador" sticks in my craw. Anyone working in sales knows that the employer is fickle and they need to have options open all the time. Little sympathy here from me as I doubt these ambassador...

Re: Rigid MTB tyre size..?
This isn't based on experiences with my rigid bike as such but the sidewalls of my WTB "Tough" tyres are so stiff that with 18psi in them they still feel rock hard. I think the matter of rim and tyre width would pale in comparison where comfort matters!

Re: How long does a drivetrain last ??
XT 11 speed cassette, Ab black Oval ring and KMC gold chain lasted the Tour Divide, so 2800ish miles with just having more oil dumped on it and being left outside for 3 weeks. The block and chain were knackered but the chainring is still perfectly fine. Obviously if it had been 25 day rides with a p...

Re: made possible by advent of ‘fatbikes’
I can't help relating my genuine (afaik) and very ironic tale about COP26. The organisers bought/leased a fleet of electric vehicles to ferry the delegates to and from the venues during the event however unfortunately Glasgow still doesn't have enough of the correct charging facilities in the relev...
