Re: Winter Jennride

That's probably what I'd be doing had I not got dragged into this BAM thing... Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing!

Great news, even for someone who's never been. I must correct this!

Re: Winter Jennride

Any BAMers, or anyone else, want to join for a Friday night bivvy near Staveley after sampling the brewery's wares? I was thinking of somewhere nearby, maybe Craggy Wood, but having seen the route, might just start early and head up to Kentmere reservoir.

Re: OT: Cheapest way to (entering) a trail half marathon!?

Fell races are often very informal and cheap to enter. Different distances but you'll probably find one close enough to 13 miles.

Or just go for a 13 mile run?

... literally as I was posting on another thread, while I was having some lunch and a break from amateur tree surgery, and brought a new cooking pot, a Soto Thermolite. 750ml to give me a smaller option than my 1l Alpkit pot. Collectively, we're doing a pretty good job of that already. It's the order in which humans are being eradicated that bothers me - I'd start at the other end.

Cheers Stu.

Binding seams is not the most ace part, but it's done (I haven't been doing it all night, just got back from the pub).

A quick "Happy Birthday" to that stalwart Bammer - James G :-bd . I think it's your "Granite" birthday - a bivvy in Aberdeen to celebrate perhaps? Thank you Reg. Nice of you to notice. Mind you, at my age I barely take notice myself! 68! :o Still, I'll take it over the a...

Thanks Justin! It's the little finishing bits that are always fiddly. Frame bag number 2

I made a frame bag for my Occam. Nothing too clever, but there's a useful amount of space in there, enough to get at least a 1.5l bladder in, which is 1.5kg less on my back/hips, and the shape was always going to require a custom job. https://i.ibb.co/V9Km7Ky/20240131-214828.jpg https://i.ibb.co/2jL...

Did I overthink everything to do with this? Yes. Did I change my mind about where to go than five times? Yes. Did I delay because I was too scared to commit? Yes. Ah, I see you've watched me every time I go out for a bivvy. (/Leave the house.) Congratulations, I'm sure it'll be easier next time, on...

Re: Liner, Quilt, or Better Bag?

I would get the better mat and see how much difference that makes - you'll probably find that's all you need. But if you do need more, of your options, I'd probably go for a quilt for the flexibility. I've tried liners and not really got on with them. Also, what do you wear to sleep in? In theory, i...

Well, the courier, with a brand new Exposure Joystick! See other thread for details. Good service from Exposure in the end. Courier (APC, but subcontracted to a local company) bloody useless though. They'd sent it next day Monday, and they did try to deliver it the Tuesday, but I was at work. Rearra...

Re: Have tarps lost their popularity?

Indeed. Case in point, my January BAM: https://i.ibb.co/2dkh2Ld/1152548.jpg You wouldn't get a tent in there, no matter how small. Could have pitched a tent on that flat-ish bit of muirburn in the background, but it would have been much more exposed to the 30mph wind, despite only being 20 yards awa...

Re: Todays walk

Went for a wander round the hills today and was once again reminded of the importance of G(ing)TFO. The forecast was good and I knew I needed to get out in the hills, but riding to them on the same old roads didn't appeal and neither did any of the XC routes I could think of, so decided to drive and...
