Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy 10/12/22

Interesting, thanks Andy. Could well be an issue. On last year's SWB (obviously much sooner after the storms) we came across some forestry areas that were definitely not passable in Strathardle. Will see if I can find out anything else.

Re: Tubeless question

I've never felt the need to remove any dried sealant. Once the moisture has evaporated, the weight must be minimal, and it's doing no harm. I think the tubeless tyre I've had on the longest has probably been on for about 4 years.

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy 10/12/22

Cheers for the routes Phil. Just had a chat with Morne, and we decided we're pretty much of the same mind: not up for an epic ATM what with fitness, work and driving. We reckon Glen Clova/Glen Prosen is going to give us the best options... Ideally start nearer Cortachy and work our way up/between th...

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy 10/12/22

I am hoping to be there too, only 1 day ride from my front door. Is it definitely at the Glas allt Sheil by Loch Muick? Max :-bd Sorry for the radio silence... keep looking at the map and then getting distracted by different options. Agree Pitlochry is a bit much. Taking the road into Strathardle s...

Hambini might be of some help... =)) I know Dave and I did think it might backlash at me a little when I was typing  . I don't subscribe/watch anymore but from dealing with the chap theres no doubt (IMO but there's others) he's a top level engineer. Also helped me understand some things ...

Re: Hope bottom bracket worth it?

I got fed up with Shimano ones too. I think I had a couple of ones that were badged XT (M8000?)... the ones with an annoying plastic adapter for the tool, which only seems to serve the purpose of being able to use smaller bearings, thus partially defeating the point of external bearing BBs  Tr...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread

Interesting. A mate of mine did the Kickstarter and was complaining about the time it's taken to get them made. To be fair, I think you should expect that with kickstarters, none of them go to schedule. Their homepage still says you can't buy them, but guess that's just not been updated (bit slack t...

Sorry to hear about your cat woodsmith, it's always so hard, but I hope you have good memories of your time together. Nice work Dave. Cats can be such difficult and viscious buggers, and yet we still love them. Have a good one Phil. Quite a nice clear evening here so hope it improves there. This is ...

Looks cracking Jimmy. Fairly accessible too though, so definitely worth taking a shelter just in case. My mate Morne is up for joining again. Clearly a slog in through half frozen slush in the dark and fog wasn't enough to put him off... Must try harder this year  Sounds good Phil. My other tho...

Hope you're recovered from the Covid! Interesting to read your post, I have just picked up a copy of The Road after a year of procrastination! Really enjoyed Dervla's Full Tilt and also thought that Deep Country was one of the best "Nature writing" books ever. Great minds! Thanks - covid ...

Cue diabolical laughter... I half-expected that sort of reaction  I didn't mean that far actually, just the top of Glen Doll and then turn right across to Bachnagairn and through Corrie Chash. Trying to avoid the highest ground, but it's not a very long route, especially to the loch rather th...

Don't fooled into thinking just because I've started a thread about this that I have any sort of plan

Seemed to be a few keen, and I believe Gelder Shiel was the suggestion?

Anyone got a plan for a ride in/out?

Let's have a show of hands.

This reminds me, I am about to finish my stock of paper filters for the Aeropress, so could you recommenced a stainless reusable filter? Off to the Lakes this evening to climb my final Wainwright tomorrow with some friends and family :-bd

Would be more cheery if the dog hadn't kept us up half the night with dodgy tummy needing to go out. And if I hadn't forgotten to bring coffee to work.

That's really not good to hear. How have they managed to take a genuinely brilliant product and **** it up so badly? FWIW I had one that looked identical (sold it a few months ago) and I'm fairly sure I used it on my 700c bike once or twice. Had a second "fork" with extra clearance for a fat (4" presumably, never used it) tyre too.

WTD: Rigid steel disc MTB/frameset/frame, large, for commuter

I've been browsing various forums and online marketplaces recently in search of a new commuter/pub/town bike or bits thereof, and thought it was worth seeing if anyone on here has something sat in the shed that really needs a new home. I was tempted to go down the proper retro MTB route, but came to...
