Re: ITT / Bike packing bike, material?

With a bit of searching around I reckon I could get about 2.2Kg off in weight but it would cost quite a bit. Might be easier to cut out the pies

Haven't looked at lighter wheels/tyres but I think I'd rather stick with something that can last.

Re: Flat pedals

Buuuut, and this is the witchcrafty bit I don't understand, what keeps your foot on the pedal over rough terrain? You! Look around and you'll see the mantra: "Heavy feet, light hands". Basically when it gets rough you should be stood up on the pedals, legs firm but not locked out, arms be...

Re: Flat pedals

I've got Fatties Flatties which seem to be among the lightest - not tried them in snow yet but they keep pretty clear of mud. Not as expensive as DMR Vaults, Hope and the like. Having moved from SPDs to flats this year, the trick seems to be to keep pressure on the pedal at all times even on the up-...

Re: What bike do you bikepack on the most?

I'm surprised how popular rigid's are compared to anything else. I thought front suspension forks were reliable enough now to be more popular, or is it that the first 29er's were not available with suspension? I've x-fusion forks on mine, switching to a decent set of rigid forks saves 1.3Kg. I can ...

Re: Off road bikes are confusing

gairym: OK, Jealousy level has just gone to 11  I did a lot of climbing around Chamonix in the 1980s so knew the area well but it's changed a lot in the intervening years, the last few times I've been have been skiing. We'll be another group of middle aged, pasty faced Brits on the trail :?...

My HT's a Solaris too, so that's good to know gairym. I'm off to the Alps next July (Chamonix) with it as well so I'll see how it (err me) cope :???:

Re: Off road bikes are confusing

A CX bike might be OK for a while but a few I know who use them say that as soon as you get on anything rocky you'd be better on an MTB. Yes, there's a huge range of MTBs and of course the manufacturers would love us all to have a bike in each of the increasingly specific categories they come up wit...

Re: YorkshireDales300

First post here so hi everyone  I've put my name down for this as my first official ITT. I'm local to the area so know most of the trails but haven't ridden them all in one go before. Hopefully I'll have done some long training rides by the time we are on the starting line. Looking at the rout...
