Re: Dave's Bikepack Maps

Yep, dumped it on to the edge 1000's sd and it's seen straight away in basecamp. Looks totally different colours wise to the v1, is it based on a different base map? I've included a lot more Openstreetmap data (have you spotted gates ;-)) and I also incorporated elements of the Openfietsmap style t...

Re: Dave's Bikepack Maps

On a Garmin 530 create a new profile and disable all maps apart from OSM street map

Set detail to "Most" and enable "Show Contours"

I may remove the shops/pois that show in towns, let me know what you think of this

Re: Dave's Bikepack Maps

The newly updated file should fix the issue with it not showing on devices. I need to sort out instructions for using it on Edge series devices as it needs some more jiggery pokery but I've run out of time due to work so support will be scant. The file will show as "OSM street" on devices ...

Re: Dave's Bikepack Maps

To open on a desktop you need Garmin Basecamp installed. Then copy the gmapsupp.img file to a directory called Garmin on a USB stick or SD card. Basecamp will then open the map automatically

Dave's Bikepack Maps

This has been a real journey to create a new render of my Garmin maps. You cannot know how many technical hurdles I've had to jump to get to this point as almost every library has changed since I did this a few years back. I found horrible errors in Ordnance Survey data and a number of bugs in the o...

Re: Who'd have thunk it, an interesting article on Road.cc?

Well reading this has changed our holiday plans. The 5 of us are now getting the ferry to Amsterdam, on bikes, and doing a leisurely 250Km loop using eco rated hostels and BnB's. We'll buy local etc and hope the kids don't hate it too much  It was always an option to be honest, but this was a ...

Re: Who'd have thunk it, an interesting article on Road.cc?

Hang on we are all forgetting that the best thing we could do for the planet is f**k off and wreck another one. So let's just chuck everything at space travel and colonisation of better places with more beaches and no Merthyr Tydfils

Re: Who'd have thunk it, an interesting article on Road.cc?

I often think there's a lot of confusion between 'saving the planet' and 'saving ourselves'. If we'd like to save ourselves or at least extend our potential time here, then yes, behaviour needs to change. Yet, if we'd like to save the planet, then eradicating the human race as quickly as possible w...

Re: A wee whisky appreciation thread.

Also reading Raw Spirit by Iain Banks, great fun though I confess to skipping the ample petrolhead discursions. I dipped in and out of it, and have now lost/lent out my copy. As a massive Iain Banks fan, it felt like it was under edited, and that he was given free reign. I hated it because of the s...

Re: Have tarps lost their popularity?

I’ll own up. Never got on with tarps and woken up wet so many mornings. I’m in the whack a tent/bivy up and stay dry camp. My Big Agnes is zero faff, up in seconds and like a little hotel. For me it’s the technology moving on. None of us use canvas anymore? I started out under it.
