Re: WRT 2019 Story Telling
Cheers Steve. It was a brilliant weekend and huge thanks to Dee and Stu for putting on the show. This was my third attempt at making it to WRT and finally the Gods of Bikepacking let it all happen. Thank you so much. Not wanting a huge ride and knowing none of the local terrain, I messaged MiddleAge...

the Undertones at Camden Electric Ballroom. Fucking hell are they still kicking around? I had no idea. Early 90's punk pop ... my music Reg, as you know. Those of you familiar with my work will know I grew up in Aussie. And all the music me and my mates loved in the 80s and 90s was coming at us fro...

Re: WRT 2019
WRT is most definitely go. All that stands between it and me is a 4hr drive. Ive got everything in there apart from my fire stove as I didnt want to have to take a backpack. And yes, slung under my down tube is a chair. It's very comfy too. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/32822010567_60071b8927_...

Re: WRT even shorter route for dads and lads
Hmm ... looks like toasted marshmallows are off the menu. Did a test pack last night and that fire stove takes up half my frame bag leaving no room for my whiskey flask. That just will not do. Not to worry. I'm sure there will be puddings aplenty at the pubs.

Meh ... 20 minutes of beautiful views, desperately tough climbs etc etc etc ... I don't doubt he's a tough as a tough thing (that is a lot of going up hill in a short time, and it takes a special kind of dedication to film yourself shouldering your bike up a crag) and has remarkable resilience and s...

Reg will be along shortly to stick a few pins in his johnclimber voodoo doll though, to be fair, he also goaded Thor last week, so he won't have a wheel to balance on. I'm still bringing every stitch of cycle clothing I own and will make my decisions as to what goes into my seat bag at midday on Sat...

Interesting gravel bars
Redshift Kitchen Sink Handlebars as see on bikepacking.com at Sea Otter. If they came 52cm wide (I really like wide drop bars) I'd line up for a set. Loads of interesting design features on these. http://www.bikepacking.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/redshift_1.jpg http://www.bikepacking.com/wp-cont...

R@pha gear's pretty good. I particularly used to like their waterproof-ish cycling caps. A black one with a white stripe down the middle. Not sure if they make them anymore. And Condor Cycles in London sold me the very best pair of roadie shoes I ever owned back sometime in the early 21st century. T...

Cheers Stu. Looking forward to a relaxed weekend. I'm bring along a fire stove and a pack of marshmallows. Building a small fire and toasting them will keep the billy lids entertained for hours. Worked on mine anyway .....

Shame the bivi bag appears to be the size of a standard Hunka, although they do say it feels bigger? :| That's what I thunk. Not sure how it would feel bigger if it's the same size. I slept in a standard Hunka once. In fact, I didn't sleep at all. Reckon you need to be 5'2" and about 65kg wrin...

Tms= ? Take More Stuff .... which is my usual modus operandi because I do like my comforts. I was going to make an effort to TLS for the WRT, but as I'm tagging along with MaM and BDSteve and their youngsters, I suspect a wood stove and some marshmallows will sneak into my frame bag so we can toast...

Re: Who's got a first aid kit?
I'm a first aider and carry a small kit with basic plasters, bandages, wipes, saline pipettes etc. Also keep a few small bags of Haribo in there. They're good for kids going wobbly because they didn't have breakfast before coming to training, and very effective at drying six-year-olds' tears when th...

Re: Lightweight shelter for dogpacking?
I've taken my son camping a few times with a 4x4 tarp set up like the one below using an extendable pole at about 5'2" inches high, so heaps of head room. He is a lot muckier than my dog and his toe nails far longer and sharper than the dog's claws. Feet like a hobbit. Gets them from his mother...

Full suspension gravel bike anyone?
Have we done this already? Soz if so. This bike has been in development for a couple of years and its earlier versions have had a bit of coverage here and there. Can't really make up my mind about it but I hope they sell a million of them because I'd really like to have a go on one. The flip chart p...

Just back in after a quick local overnighter to give my new Big Agnes Flycreek a test run. Usual story: home early from work, packed the bike, unpacked, packed again. I was going to take my chair and fire stove and cook a meal, but decided to do a couple of extra miles and eat at the pub instead. Gl...

Not at the moment but I'm increasingly thinking it could be my Fargo. But in the basis that I can have plus wheels, standard wheels, rigid and suss forks.... So that probably doesn't count does it. Ive settled on Muc-Off Wet Lube for year round duties. It's cheap (ish) lasts pretty well and comes in some very, very small bottles that stash nicely in your tool kit if you need to reapply it.

Re: Side wall sutures
Back in my 1980s touring days I would carry a spare tyre and it came in very handy many times. But I also used the awl on my Swiss Army Knife with some thick waxed cotton thread once or twice. Very messy. Very time consuming. Still worked. These days I just carry a Park Tool tyre boot and some Arald...

Yes. Yes I do. I picked one up from one of the backpacking websites a couple years ago. Bloke gave it away for a tenner and it was worth it just for the entertainment value. My god. What am utterly dreadful product.remember Balloon Beds (shudder!)
