Re: Pedal dilemma

I was all SPD until I got my fatbike. The need to traverse snow/ice on foot and the cooling effect if having SPDs act as a heat sink persuaded me I should adopt flats for that bike. When it came to bikepacking on other bikes I eventually reached the same decision and now mostly use some Salomon trai...

Absolutely. In fact, I've just bought a new 26 incher.

26x4" is a minimum requirement for the winter.

Re: Where’s your waterproof when it’s not raining?

Usually in the gap of my loop bars, held by a couple of Voile/Fixplus straps. Or on the top of my Terrapin saddle bag - held on by those straps. I reckon it's best to stow it somewhere it doesn't subsequently affect dry kit.

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

Maybe Rule 2 needs the following clarification..
2/ A single trip taking in both the last night of one month and the first night of the next, will count as two months if you wish.

Re: The post man's been ...

The Postie arrived with my bivvy bag and a few other bits from Alpkit. Planning next weeks trip, not a bad way to spend a morning! I hope that mug is going to be attached to the outside of seat pack so people know you're a bike-packer  I'm going to buy an additional mug just for this reason. ...

Re: Todays ride

Somehow, I've never actually ridden north through the Gaick, so I got an early train to Blair Atholl this morning and rode back. Despite forecasts of thunderstorms, it turned out really nice again, so I extended my return trip via Nethy Bridge. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48415646352_53a267f...

Re: Saddles; Any Brooks users?

I used a B17 for touring and the sort of longer rides I did on my Amazon and then on some off-road stuff when I started using that as my #gradventourer. It was comfy from the get-go. My first ride was a 50 miler in East Lothian and I was amazed how nice it felt. I used it for years but it eventually...

My van breaking down near Tain while I was en route to a bivvy at Sandwood Bay. I cycled out to Tarbet Ness instead and when I was rolling up my tent in the morning I heard some breathing behind me. I looked round to see a small pod of dolphins swimming past about 10 metres away. My "farewell t...

I had Exotic forks on my El Mariachi for year or so and I've had the same forks (but badged by White Bros) on my fatbike for the past 8 years. I'd buy them again in an instant.

Water levels in the area are still low.

No need to worry about the Feshie in particular - the route only crosses it at Feshie Bridge.

Out on the road bike today, trying to find that perfect balance between exertion and wind chill. I was overtaken by Chris Hoy (in his car).
