Re: What you done t' your bike today

What they say as you need enough space above the end of the steerer to compress( without hitting the steerer) as it won't compress below this ( as the cap hits the steerer)

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Think I got three in in March [ as I also stayed on a boat and rode there on a bike]

Planning on a biggish bike ride some weekend if the weather holds and a local if not....also avoiding last minute.com again after the first two were last day of the month.

Re: What you done t' your bike today

A goat link could do it, but I've read mixed report on the shifting with them. Figured I'd just get this new mech Worked fine for me but not done hundreds of miles as it's on the kids bike ( to fit an extender cassette) Just done it for a drop bar 1 X 11 @ 46 rear so will report back ( fine for the...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

a goat link or a longer B screw would have resolved that issue

Mechs have two measures capacity [ difference between largest and smallest teeth it can cope with] and maximum cassette size

Re: Frame Protection Tape

Are any of these clear tapes thick enough to be used on cranks?
I have used to on the crank arm faces where i get heel rub without any issue but it will only stick to a gently round or flat faces - it wont do the angles at all [ never tried a full wrap which may work ]

Re: What you done t' your bike today

I've now taken two SP hubs apart for bearing changes - as you say, I right old fiddle but better than buying a new hub! How much you charging for doing this  Looks fiddly but doable but mine seems ok [second hand and over 2000 miles use from me] , then again it only really sees road miles

Re: Todays ride

[quoteNot sure I totally sold on these bars, but a single two and a half hour ride isn't enough to make any sort of decision.][/quote]
Dont know those bars but I dont like my Jones when I have suspension forks on so when i change from rigid I change to "normal" bars
YMMV

Re: RockShox Rebound Adjuster

In that case older models[rockshox] it was designed to stay in situ so I would assume that is as well but dont know for sure, I assume the manual will cover it - what model are they SID? if so this service guide shows it installed on page 82 https://www.sram.com/globalassets/document-hierarchy/servi...

I removed mine [earlier model] as how often do you feel the need to change rebound mid ride?

I have one and that looks better than what i use For anyone curious its a great light and I like the fact its a dynamo light, its a usb charge and its a battery light[powerbank] and you can do charge through - ie use the light on dynamo or battery and charge the ba...

Yes the geese were incredibly vocal - on the plus side it got us all up early before the tourists arrived - but it was sub optimal Good to meet people, dont think I had met any of you before, and to travel a part of the Lakes that I did not know really well and to enjoy the quiet lesser travelled tr...

Re: Hub recommendations?

. My Hunt road wheels are embarrassingly loud, louder than any Hopes I've had
Guess they have changed but no idea on age of mine as it was from a mate ( it's not silent but it's not loud and nothing like a hope)so likely old ish

Re: Hub recommendations?

DT swiss are quiet - even the non ratchet version is nowhere near as noisy as a hope
Hunt are not that loud
Not had a recent shimano hub but none of the ones I have are loud
Easton also not a loud hub but not sure if it can be had stand alone.

Also a hater of Hope noise.

Re: South Lakes Spring Break, 25-26th March 2023

Met office weather forecast looks considerably better than the BBC one - but that is just how dry it is and it wont be very spring like [ last year was a scorcher iirc - though I missed it due to family reasons.

Re: Bargain Alert Thread

Sliding dropouts and takes 2.8 tyre which I like but 65 head angle and 130 mm travel forks are probably not ideal (and heavy) for bikepacking. Not the lightest at 15 kg My opinion it would be ok but it's an" aggressive " hardtail rather than a comfort waggon. Doubt you can get much better ...

Way of the roses is a road ride unless there is a different off road one . planning on doing it this year as well but setting off from homw adds 30 ish miles As for luggage what they all say Rear seat pack as big as you want( generally use a 7 litre one as forces you to TLS ( take less stuff) and so...

Knew a guy who re created one with an internal engine etc.

Incredible use of space to be fair but by heck it would be cramped
