Re: Bivvy a Month 2016.
Did the sheep enjoy it too? Think she was relieved I had my bibs on  On the Ford Fiesta last year I rescued a sheep in a similar predicament, stupid had its head stuck in the fence. Not knowing sheep, I wasn't brave enough to stand at the back end, I stood next to it and leant over to grab it...

Re: need a new lid
Just got a Kask Mojito (ooo, I've got a few things to put down the postman's arrived thread) The fit is excellent, the way the cradle adjusts is the best of any helmet I've tried. Not so clever with glasses but I've been using mine fine so far Only use it on the road though (commuting basically), I ...

Re: Waterproof shell
Rab vapour rise jacket is what you are looking for - breathable, fairly light, wind resistant and shower proof. RRP is about £130 but they are frequently discounted. I got mine for £80 from Taunton Leisure but I've seen them as low as £70. They are great jackets. I wouldn't recommend one for this u...

Can't remember if I asked this already - when is the cut off for ordering tickets? I need to work out if I can arrange a pass, there's a few things happening around then
No idea about arrangements for this yet - I don't mind the ride in, it's the ride back to the car that's the challenge

Re: to carry a backpack or not
Only used a pack once, couldn't get my bar harness on and it was a quick local trip
Other than that it's either a bumbag or, more recently, nothing at all
Don't mind wearing a pack for a day trip, but prefer for the weight to be on the bike for bikepacking

Worn one almost every day for the last couple of weeks - LS base layer, LS jersey, gilet. Seem to work OK down to about 2-3 degrees for commuting.Pirahna wrote:I've never understood long sleeve jerseys, short sleeve with arm warmers every time.
Do you use LS base layer and arm warmers?

Re: Todays ride
A 53 km "recovery ride" on the singlespeed today. It's been somewhat neglected of late, and I'd forgotten just how quick it was up hills. Anyhow, January distance target hit: 1000 km of mostly off road riding and 19,500 metres of ascent. Pleased with the start to the year so far  C...

LS jersey with full zip - would love one of these
Gilet, maybe. I have enough already, depends on design. If you could get plenty of reflective bits on it, and make it fairly bright, then I could easily justify it

They don't have to depict misery Ben, just bikepacking as it really is. If that's a cracking camp spot or a stunning sunrise it's all good. Hopefully no one will take this the wrong way ... I'm after less 'American style' pictures. There I've said it, flame away  I'll try to ping you over an ...

Re: Cover (and other) pictures sought.
What I'm after are pictures that truly capture bikepacking as it is in reality - I'm not wanting to portray some romantic, 'Mills and Boon' lifestyle notion of it. All my pics tend to show the nice bits of bikepacking - nice views, interesting stuff, pics of the bivy spot etc. I can't be bothered t...

Re: traditional touring cooking (2 people)
For that sort of cooking, a meths stove with a remote feed might work, or an adjustable one. I know Stuart does both My only real 'cooking' experience on meths is with a trangia, all my other meths stoves are water boilers essentially The bigger the cooking pot the easier it'll be to cook in it, and...

Re: traditional touring cooking (2 people)
The ultimate meths cooking set is a Trangia I think mine is a 25. It's a bit battered and is the plain ally one with a kettle, but it's so reliable. Haven't used it in a while but there's nothing to break so I'd be happy taking it on a trip without checking it first. It's heavy all in though so I've...
