Re: Between now and January?

Doing part of the KAW with a friend ( can't seem to find space in the calendar to do the whole lot, until next year) Getting on with expanding my Veloviewer square from 34 to 40 (been a bit slack on this, but a self imposed deadline of the end of the year is beconing) Actually going on some bivi rid...

Re: Garmin Edges

That's one good reason, I suppose.

I don't tend to encounter terrain like that, where I live, so haven't encountered that problem (yet?)

Might be worth letting Martin at talkytoaster know, in case he can amend the maps (via OSM)

As an aside, how many boners use the talkytoaster maps?

I find them pretty good, and it's nice to support the little guy

Re: Which side of the track are you?

Right foot forward, and left side of the track (assuming there's no ruts/puddles etc.) On a rough track, the right side is always smoothest. Always. I don't know why. The left side might look better but it never is. Even when travelling in the opposite direction. I have this with one section of road...

Re: iPhone (the did you know this…)

Ok, for the sake of balance, here's an Android tip... Can't be sure if it's peculiar to Motorola phones or not but, if you need to turn on the torch, you can either go through the menus/UI to do this, or - wait for it - just shake the phone, to turn the torch on or off. I accidentally discovered thi...

I still have the OEM fork from my Trek Marlin, which got replaced by a Manitou fork.
It weighs several tons, but has only been ridden once, and is up for grabs.

Ti Sonder Camino, at the moment

But, TBH, the aluminium one would be just fine - I'm not greedy

Ok, I have 5 bikes (and a unicycle) so that's probably not exactly true 🤪

Re: Spacer between headtube and bar bag?

On another thread I mentioned I'd been using one of the SJS accessory thingies for about 10 years. It's been on every bike I've used for bikepacking and it isn't just a bumper. I hang my harness from it. All my bikes are XL chunky monsters and not everyone will have the space to do this, but it's a...

Thanks for the extra info @alpinum - I'm probably never going to need a tracker, so I only have a very passing interest.
You never know, though, so any info is a good starting point

Re: Hit me with your Bivy Stick

I've never seen/used/owned a tracker, but wondered if the built in battery would be an issue, for those without a dynamo (or the cheap and lightweight 😉 solar panels) Just curious Same as the Inreach. It just means having to recharge from an external source. They quote 120 hours at minimal usage. Y...

Re: At last!

What's the protocol for a vehicle passing a cyclist when the road physically isn't wide enough to give 1.5m clearance? Genuine question, I have no idea If there's no room to pass, then don't pass. In life, in general, if it's not possible to do something safely, then wait until it is possible. * Lo...

Re: My last night out was ...

Following a bout of depression a couple of years ago, my mojo has ebbed and flowed. I'm trying to rediscover what it was that I loved so much about the physical act of riding a bike. I know that probably sounds a bit odd but in all honesty, I can't remember. Most riding now either feels like a chor...

I was going to say "this will be more compelling to watch, than BGT" but I think it deserves much more praise than that.

Re: Do you own an unsuitable bike?

Well, according to a lot of motorists, all bikes are unsuitable.

On a more positive note, I'm changing jobs next month, so my 60 mile round trip, by car, becomes an 8 mile round trip by bike - mostly on reasonable cycle paths.
Happy days

A friend of mine wrapped most of his frame in black insulating tape when using it for commuting. Once scuffed up a bit in use it looked quite tatty but the frame was still perfect underneath. That's a bit like those leather covers that our American cousins use, to protect the front of their cars fr...

Re: Locks, for commuting, superlight, strong and reliable...

This discussion raises the issue of what constitutes good infrastructure, and I feel that secure storage for bikes is often overlooked. In larger towns and cities, it should be easier, due to the potentially higher demand for such facilities. Maybe councils could use some of the empty shop buildings...

Ignore the light bit and suck up the weight for the first ride in - then leave it locked to whatever you'd lock your bike to
